I have always used 'Mr Sheen' spray furniture polish. Silicon free, and the beeswax breaks down dirt and steam oil.
Cheers,
Julian

Re: Vacuum Ejector Drawing / Guidance
Hi Steve, Apologies for the delay, I don't log in too often. Your dimensions are as per the Brian Hughes / Reeves design that Keith Wilson copied. There is a 1/32" gap between the 2 cones. I used No.53 and No.74 for both which is quite close to the Hughes/Reeves design and got very good results...

Re: Injector
Hi Greg, Your pic of your 'D' bit 9 degrees tapered reamer looks to be considerably greater in degrees than 9. What is the OD and what length is the taper? I have not found any engraving bits of small enough taper but I do use them sometimes to remove some of the metal before using my injector reame...

Re: Injector
Hi Greg, I would not advise making the injector cones out of stainless. In any event it is unnecessary. Your 'large' size injector required will have much thicker walls to the steam cone nozzle than those for 'small' injectors. If you are worried about Bill's "wear" comments, simply make a...

Re: Injector
Hi Greg, Have you bought yet the book by D.A.G. Brown? It really is a 'must have'. His book has the drawings for an injector that will be of a suitable large size for your loco, and a 'large' injector is easier to make than a 'small' one. Making what I will term 'UK' type miniature injectors is not ...

Hi John, The pic of your injector posted on 21st June is a gunmetal casting with 'KB' on the left hand side. They were sold by Kennion Brothers of Hertfordshire UK from the mid 1950s till around 1980. They were made by Arthur Grimmett of the Isle of Wight, who also supplied injectors to Reeves in Bi...

Re: 7 1/2 gauge 4" Hunslet build, Reeves castings
Hi Lucius, It is a bit too late now, but the 3" scale Quarry Hunslet in 7.25"g marketed by Reeves in the UK is a far superior design when compared to the Milner design you are using. You have arleady noted various problems so far. When you get to the valve gear and cylinders and those drea...

Hi ChipsAhoy, Your picture is of Talyllyn Railway No.6 'Douglas'. Built by Andrew Barclay and Co Quite a few fullsize examples were built to this design. The other pictures are not the loco you depicted and are mainly a UK miniature design and variants called 'Sweet Pea' marketed by Blackgates in th...

Re: Hunslet draughting issues
Hi Bryce, I dont think Fred needs an in depth scientific analysis of the various merits or otherwise of the available options. He just wants some help getting the draughting better on his lovely Hunslet loco. We can always re-open the other thread for such discussion. It is after all not a USA desig...

Re: Hunslet draughting issues
Hi Bryce, You really ought to read all the available UK Rugby Test reports of British Railways of the late 1940s and 1950s. These were mostly draughting tests under the watch of Sam Ell. These were tests on fullsize locos. They surpass Goss and Young in the USA by a considerable margin. If you have ...

Re: Hunslet draughting issues
Hi Fred, Your alteration looks very good and an improvement on the two previous drawings. As long as you keep to the Jos Koopmans proportions I detailed a week or so ago for distance to choke from blast nozzle top, and diameter of choke, and with an enlarged blast nozzle, you should have a significa...

Re: Hunslet draughting issues
Hi Bryce, Please do not dismiss your European cousins. The GWR used Goss in Churchward's time on the GWR post 1904 with significant experimentation and fine tuning for a set of standard smokebox draughting arrangements. Sam Ell, perhaps the cleverest man employed by the old GWR apart from Willie Pea...
