Spring Rate Calculation
Hello I posted here several years ago while building my Goose. It was finished and worked well. I now have a riding car for my RS20 and need new springs, I think. Several people have offered assistance, and for some reason, I'm struggling. I calculated the weight of me and the car at 320 pounds and ...

I have an electric locomotive made in the 70's it may be similar, but your description is difficult to follow.
Please post some pictures.

Re: Another battery question
John FWIW, don't over think the batteries. I almost did. My train is 1000 pounds loaded. It was designed to hold 2 adults and some grand kids. I started off with 2 deep cycles and have been satisfied so far. Our track is about 1/2 mile and I can run all day. I've visited a 4 mile track and have done...

Re: Fixing Harbor Freight Lift
Like hammermill said, I'd just clean it up, put in a new "O" ring and store it properly. Chances are, it will last a few more years.
Then, on to the next project.
You can't expect too much from HF.

Re: 4QD 50 amp controller wanted !
I wish I could speak with authority, but I'm pretty good at my day job and weak on the EE topic. I configured 2 24v motors in parallel and wired them to my 4QD controller. While running the first time at the track, I noticed one motor getting hot. It also made an unusual noise and was loosing power....

Joe
I bought mine direct from 4QD.
It took about 10 days to arrive and their tech support was very good. ALL email inquiries were answered within 24 hours, not bad considering the distance.
I've been happy with it so far.

Re: Dave's Goose Project
I bought it from ebay.
"Loud Motor Driven Electric 12v Ahoooga Ooga Antique Vtg Car Horn Klaxon Black
( 381133405219 )"
The reason I bought the first one is a club member had one and it sounded ok. He explained he tuned it. Mine wouldn't tune to my satisfaction.

Re: Dave's Goose Project
I received my second Oogah horn in the mail today. The first one I bought at a local store that advertises heavily and usually has coupons. It was $8.99 with the coupon. The local store has lots of things which, if you are careful, can be used a few times before they give out. The horn was "ok&...

Re: Dave's Goose Project
Oh I have the theory, it's the execution that has me stumped. My cars are connected to the trucks with a kingpin. On one end, I have an oilite bronze washer between the car frame and the truck bolster. On the other end, I have two pads out by the sideframes fo the truck which the car frame rests upo...

Re: Dave's Goose Project
I ran again this weekend on the track with the sprung switches. This time I added weight and didn't have any problems passing through the switches. Thanks for the advise. But, How do you size springs? I took the weight of the riding car and estimated load and divided by 8. I know the wheels shouldn'...

Re: Noobs need help building galloping goose #7
Nick I'm just finishing up mine. I used Motor #2 as my "inspiration". I've put in 60 laps on our 2200' club track and have most of the bugs worked out. First, you have to decide what you want and how it fits with your capabilities. I wanted to carry 2 adults and 3 grandchildren. My next cr...

Re: Dave's Goose Project
They were sprung point.
Which might explain why I had more problems in one direction than the other.
