Re: "Catherine", a USA "Sweet Pea" engine build

The May "Run and Rides Day" is May 20th. Maybe we'll see Ben or Mike there?? Bring your Sweet Pea, Ben. Is it 7-1/4" gauge? I'll be running steam on the 4-3/4" track giving rides from 1 to 4. Lots of time to visit afterwards. Mike, bring whatever you can. David.

Re: Selecting motors for electric loco

Mike, The powered wheel sets made by Maxitrak might be something to consider. Each wheel set has two motors. They can also build these in 4-3/4" gauge. I just took delivery of a loco made by them for use on 4-3/4" track. It features two trucks with two axles each. Four motors per truck, to...

Re: Little engines 0-4-0 project

an interesting order of assembly.... Can’t access the tubes to roll them from the firebox once the front is welded on to the firebox. Note the smoke box side is not rolled in and was just for holding things in place. What order would you do things in? I would think that you must be able to roll a t...

Re: Machining side rods for a 1.5" scale 2-8-0

Machining the flutes with a woodruff cutter is actually pretty easy, and when doing a tapered rod, where the cuts meet, it is probably less of a problem than you might think. The misalignment is not even noticeable. This photo is of rods done with a woodruff cutter. The flutes are quite rectangular ...

I assume the 15 means 15% silver? I hope this is not for a boiler.

I don't understand why you would be depressed about time spent building a locomotive. I consider it a necessary thing. At least you have something to show for your work at the end of the day. With many hobbies you end up with nothing tangible.

Here's the track plan for the 4-3/4" track. The drawing is not quite complete, but, shows all of the main line track. The switches can be set for three different layouts.
