I just realized something, so this boiler (the cut apart one) was originally steel tubes and they were replaced with copper. Copper and Steel are a fair distance apart on the galvanic reaction chart, i.e. the steel will be consumed as the "anode" in the "battery". Heat speeds the process, and the c...

Milton M-style/industrial. Pretty sure that's what was being used at LALS and Riverside, at least the last time I was there running.

Well, just to even more confirm information earlier in this thread, Donald Pergande and his dad did build 609 originally. I just got off the phone with with him. He was very surprised to learn that it was still around. Gave tyleire Don's number so hopefully they can have a chat.

Thanks Kevin, last thing he worked on in the shop was parts for the Shay. Once the move is done, I'll pick back up where he left off.

Unfortunately he passed away October 2017 due to cancer, my mom is gone as well, cancer. I'm packing up and leaving for Arizona this year, moving the business there too. Figured there was a chance he might be known by someone on here :)

Donald Pergande has been a friend of the family for 50+ years, he had mentioned his dad and him had an engine. I'll have to go visit him and show the film.
