Re: K Brake Drawings
Jeff, I cannot thank you enough for posting your drawings!!! I was figuring my next step would be to find a prototype car with a K brake on it, and crawl up beneath it to get as many measurements as I could. The problem of course is that there are very few cars, at least in the Knoxville, Tennessee ...

Re: K Brake Drawings
Thanks for the info, but after looking up the 1916 Car Builders Dictionary online, this is the same sort of drawing as the one I posted above.

Re: K Brake Drawings
Hi Dick,
Thanks for the heads-up. I did look at those posts. The pics of a derelict K-brake were helpful and the K brake manuals are also useful. Still no blueprints, but good information nonetheless.

K Brake Drawings
Gentlemen, I have been working on 3D CAD drawings for several truss rod era freight cars, and I have prototype blueprints for almost every part on these Southern Railway cars, every part that is, save for the Westinghouse K brakes, specifically KC 8x12 brake cylinder and reservoir with type K triple...

Re: K-36 / 37 Lead Truck Part Drawings
Right. If only the part drawings for the Uintah mallets still existed or the locomotives themselves. One of the obvious differences on the trucks was the size of wheel used: 26" on the mallet; 28" on the K-36/37. There is also a difference in the way the Bissel post was constructed or size...

Re: K-36 / 37 Lead Truck Part Drawings
The lead truck on the Uintah mallet and the D&RGW K-36 appear to be very similar designs, both coming from Baldwin built locos in the 1920s and made by Commonwealth Steel Castings. There are no known part or assembly drawings for the Uintah mallet, so the best one can do is trace the elevation a...

Re: K-36 / 37 Lead Truck Part Drawings
What I lack is the lid for the 5x9 journal boxes on the truck. I have good mechanical drawings for a McCord pressed steel lid of 1902 vintage, but I do not seem to have any for the peculiar, bulging lids used on the majority of these trucks. Does anyone have a blueprint he could share with me? I'll ...

Re: Visiting the WF&P in St. Louis
Hi Mike,
I'm so sorry I missed you as well. My son Jonathan and I had a great visit out there. Jonathan even got to do a bit of hostling on the 928. It was his first time to put his hand on a throttle! This absolutely made his day . . . and mine as well

Re: Visiting the WF&P in St. Louis
Sadly, no. That should have been on my list. I do not think every WF&P riding car is braked, but the "crew cars"--flats at the front and end of each passenger consist, do appear to be braked. One can just make out the brake rigging in some of the pics, and on some of the locomotive ten...

Re: Visiting the WF&P in St. Louis
Track on the WF&P is built from 12 lbs. rail. One of the interesting bits is how the WF&P uses its own #6, #8 and #10 cast steel frogs. Guard rails are not cast but formed from other bits of rail. Points are milled from rail. There are no tie plates, but plenty of fish plates made specically...
