D&RGW lettering

Where can I find clear examples of circa 1890 G&RGW lettering for locos, tenders, cars & cabooses? The small text of nearly all old photos (or of rebuilt units) are too small or indistinct to read (weight, build date, etc.). Was there a "standard format" back then, of what informat...

Re: D&RGW short caboose

Hi Ray,
Yes, Ed's was long caboose 0503 and he built it from I believe a good quality HOn3 kit, a technique he recommends for detail, dimensions, etc. Thanks for your help -- the Narrow Gauge Annual is a wonderful resource!

Thanks All! Sorry, I don't know how to answer individual posts or what a PM is. Gary, would love some scanned pages of the short caboose -- thanks! Just to thank you all for your wonderful info as I checked out all the sites you mentioned. Ray, I did buy & download the 2006 Narrow Gauge Annual y...

Water in loco steam brake and ejector systems

If my Allen mogul could talk, it would scream "Quit water-boarding me, I ain't no terrorist!" On air, both the loco brakes and ejector work fine....of course! However, on steam, quite a different matter. After application, lap and release the trapped water in the loco steam brake cylinders...

Vacuum brake system

I've just finished a 1.6" Allen Mogul with steam brakes for the loco. But I want to add an ejector vacuum brake system for the tender & rest of the consist. Although there are a number of suppliers out there with various components, I'm still looking for an operational schematic that explai...
