Cylindrical drill bit storage container mystery

I have a coworker who has an old drill bit holder he is looking to replace. For the life of me I can not find one like it anywhere. He got it with some bits from some bigger name company way back when but cannot remember who (and it has long ago worn off the holder). I'll try my best to describe it ...

Re: Well, my motor exploded and I need a new one.

Just to be more annoying, I looked up McMaster-Carr's best 200 uF capacitor. It's over $13, before shipping. Checked Ebay. I found a USA capacitor with a 1-year warranty. It's $8.90, shipped. The seller has over 100,000 sales and a 100% positive rating. The capacitor itself has two reviews. Both ar...

Re: Well, my motor exploded and I need a new one.

I would check Ebay and other sources before buying a cap from McMaster. I already bought it and installed it on the motor and put the lathe back together last week. While I could have gotten the exact same capacitor on Ebay I figured anything from MC would be better and I would not have to wait for...

Re: Well, my motor exploded and I need a new one.

The McMaster-Carr sourced run capacitor will probably be of superior quality than the original one. Your problem may not repeat. ~RN I'm sure the MC one is better than the Chinese one. I picked up a 32.9-37.1 uF run capacitor. The original one was rated at 250V but as that doesn't apparently exist ...

Re: Well, my motor exploded and I need a new one.

So it looks like either: 1. Replace the 35uF run capacitor, or 2. Get a decent 0.5 HP motor and VFD, like this combo: http://dealerselectric.com/-50-HP-1800-RPM-115-Volts-Input-Package-3.asp 1 will be easiest and the best short term option. 2 will be the quite a bit more expensive ($200-$300) and pr...

Re: Well, my motor exploded and I need a new one.

Look at amp ratings to get a better idea what to look for in a replacement. The plate has it rated at 8.8 amps and 550 Watts. The plate doesn't actually list HP but the HF website does. So no 1 HP motor. Would an actual 3/4 HP motor be too much for it or should I be looking at something more like a...

Re: Well, my motor exploded and I need a new one.

If the motor base is a standard NEMA frame size, you can measure it, then go to McMaster-Carr, search for motor bases, and then go to the "product detail" for similar-sized plates and they'll have a CAD drawing you can match up. If it matches, then you'll know the NEMA designation and can...

Well, my motor exploded and I need a new one.

I was working with my HF 8x12 lathe yesterday and *BOOOOM* the run capacitor blew up (literally). Now I could try and just replace the run capacitor but I thought I'd take this chance to replace the motor entirely. I was thinking of getting an AC 1HP 3 phase motor and a VFD to run it off 115v. Two q...

I think I'm going to need some more specific pointers on where to look as when I search all I seem to get are architecture and iron furnace designs.

Re: Trying to create an adjustable gas valve.

When it come to pneumatics, there are a ton of ways to skin the buffalo. Paint ballers, and nail guns use a pre-chamber, to collect the gas charge, and a pop valve to release it. A needle valve can regulate flow in a crude way, but really offers no advantage, as it will flow at diferent rates, at d...

Trying to create an adjustable gas valve for semi auto rifle.

I'm looking for some help with the design. I know there is an easy way of doing this, just copy the on/off only valve drill two holes for the gas flow, drill a center hole and thread it, screw a bolt in and out to adjust gas flow. But I wanted to try something a little more fun to try and make. The ...
