Re: Threading without the end groove

I can usually just pull out with the machine running at a reasonable speed. Like H said, practice, practice... We used to make cable spools for cranes and hoists. These used round nosed tools to match the cable radius. We had to stop in a drilled hole on some jobs. The King (brand name) 84 inch vert...

Re: Nylatron for bearings

I built a Case Half Scale Traction engine about 30 years ago. The valve gear is similar to a Hackworth gear. I made the sliding block out of Nylatron as well as the main crank pin. The engine would tighten up at times. It took a while to find the sliding blocks were tightening up while running. I ma...

Does anyone else plan to attend?
I plan to be there most of both days.
Mike has a huge stock of castings, finished
parts, and accessories in the warehouse.

Re: Cylinder Block Machining

Greg, That is an interesting idea with the shaper.

I write a couple lines if code, mount the cylinder block in two vises
And push the green button.

Re: A champion is born.

Hi Paul, I would use a woodruff cutter for those slots. We used to cut keyways by the thousands for an industrial air conditioner company. Fought every one for size, and tool life, 'till using the woodruffs. Mcmaster has 1/16 inch wide by 3/4 diameter for about 21 bucks and change. Here is a little ...

Just a guess, but maybe they go in an adjustable shell reamer like this.
They are pretty useless without the body or shell.

Re: Spark Arrestor mesh size?

I reciently made a spark arrestor for one of my engines. It is made of an upper and lower plate, both recessed for 1/16 mesh stainless screen from Mcmaster Carr. The upper has a male shaped cone on the lower side to deflect the sparks down and ease the smoke thru the unit. The lower plate has a piec...

Evan,

If your grandfathers rings don't work out, this company
has cast iron rings for a very reasonable price.
They are located in Elkton Maryland.

I have no connection other than being a satisfied customer.

Re: Chain for air brake linkage.

Bob,
Check out clock weight chain on line, especially grandfather clock weight chain.
Those weights are pretty heavy and some filled with lead.
If this is not just for looks, you may have to silver solder the links.
