Re: Fly Cutter Problems

Watched Adam Booth on youtube using the G&E shaper shear cutting plates, beautiful finish and I guess pretty darn flat.
The bygone shapers still have their uses even though snubbed by many including me but I have a completely different view point now.

Re: Fly Cutter Problems

I set my head 1 thou over and zero nod.
You will always get deflection and small steps are unavoidable.
Abom has seen the light with his Shapers, does beautiful work, wish I had the space for one!

Re: Annular cutters

Rota broaches make excellent end mills, laying up a ship in Indonesia I was running low on sharp end mills but had heaps of rota broaches, they worked well on removing metal on the mill.

Re: Best lube for wood planer gear train?

Hi Greg,
The feed roller bushings are cast iron, ideal candidate to rust onto the shafts if laid up for extended period of time.
Oilite bushings would be a better choice
The open gearbox is not desirable at that high speed but it does the job.

Re: Need help with lathe finish

Your motor is single phasing, hopefully repairing the terminal will bring it back to full power.
Check the motor tail insulation, sometimes they melt and cause a ground fault.

Re: Radius Knurling.

My Australian made Taps I just measured have a definite back relief.
The imports do not have the relief.
You get what you pay for. :)
