I just screw in a self tapping screw and pull out with pliers.
I replaced all on my lathe and fitted Zerk grease nipples and modified a grease gun so I can pump in way oil, positive lubrication.

Re: ENC Variable Frequency Drive
Cutting the power to the VFD by using the foot brake is not advised, generates high voltage to the VFD potentially damaging the IGBT's.

Re: Drilling a .25mm hole.....any advice?
I have similar carbide drill bits down to 0.1 mm, 4 thou, can hardly see it!
I have a Dremel drill press which would probably work taking it easy, although 30000 rpm is way too slow but maybe possible.
Good luck.

Re: Right Angle Head for the Bridgeport clone
I made mine years ago utilising spiral bevel gears running in an oil bath.
Only used once but when you need it you need it.
Watched an Aussie youtuber setting up his BP clone with a horizontal spindle, best of both worlds.

Re: Inexpensive Rotary Broach
I made the Hemingway style rotary broach, works great on brass and aluminium. Steel is a different matter, ok up to 5/16" above that you need a LOT of tailstock force. Watched on YT last week, the Guy cut off the straight section of an allen key, chucked it up in the lathe and hollow ground the...

Re: Precision Level Problems
Hi Harold, for once I have to disagree, my Starrett 98 is purposely manufactured with a bow, that is high on the ends, minuscule amount so it does not rock.
Don't ask me how but no evidence of any scraping marks.
My British Watts precision 12" block level only has pads on each end.

Re: Clocking of toolpost
Just checked, clocking difference with same tool holder is about 20 degrees, have to assume pistons are different in length.
If the pistons were same length I would get 90 degrees clocking difference driven by a single cam.
Maybe pistons have been incorrectly installed.

Hi, Pistons move in sequence as you rotate, not at the same time.

Re: Starrett 98-6
The Level you have is higher resolution than the Starrett 199 0.02mm / Metre or 0.0008" / 39' approx. The Starrett 199 is 0.0005 / 12" I have a Starrett 8" 98 and as Harold said it does not have the resolution to level a lathe bed. I would persevere with the one you have, understand t...
