Re: Driver Counterweights
to Fender Thanks for the info and link. It would be interesting to see the calculations done to achieve the counterweight offset design. to Sandiapaul. Well I would love to but have little equipment, space, skills or money to do so. However, I have been producing some scale 3D models and drawings fr...

Driver Counterweights
Hello, I've been going through the drawings of the S1B Niagara I purchased from the NYCSHS. I noticed something with the drawings of the main intermediate and back driving wheel centres, which I cannot make sense of. These three drawings show the counter weight offset from opposite of the crank by r...

Re: Engine bed (GSC)
I am curious as to the purpose of the concave features on the left and right side of the pilot beam on most? cast steel engine beds.

Re: Unidentified Niagara device
Hello,
There was little on the pipework drawings. When i looked at the elevation and sections there it was, in outline at least. It is the low water alarm. Any information on low water alarms would be interesting.
Thanks

Re: Unidentified Niagara device
Thankyou, I didn't realise the whistle was there. That must be it. Its attached to the SH steam manifold which also feeds the blower.
I couldn't attach the file. Maybe its too big.
Cheers

Unidentified Niagara device
hello, I was looking at the Niagara drawings that I purchased from the NYCSHS. And I am very curious about the device that sits to the left of the smoke stack on top of the smokebox. It is shown as a silhouette on the elevation and left hand pipework drawings. I would appreciate the identification a...

Re: Engine bed (GSC)
That GSC loco bed in Locomotive Cyclopedia issue 1947 on page 8-608 is I'm 99% sure a Niagara bed. I recently finished 3D modelling it and it looks identical. In the image the pilot beam ends have been cut off to bore the cylinders.

Re: 1.5" Niagara by Fred Bouffard
Thanks for the information on the ALCO photos.
As an aside, did any of the PT tenders survive? They were used on a range of NYC locomotives and there is references in some of the PT tender drawings of a conversion or reuse as an "oil supply car" dated 7-15-57, whatever that is.

Re: 1.5" Niagara by Fred Bouffard
Hello, I only just recently came across these posts. For many years the S1B Niagara has been my favourite locomotive and I am very keen on building one. I have the drawing CDs from the NYCSHS which are brilliant and moderately priced. However, they are not complete, eg. no arrangement of the boiler ...
