Re: 40x60 Workshop

Dave, Just went through building a shop two years ago. We bought a 12.5 acre horse farm (w/o horses!!) and no garage except the attached two car. Needed space so went with all I could place where it was built - 30 x 60 and it is NOT large enough! Built a gambrel roof for upper space and high ceiling...

Re: Pandemic Progress?

Last May we finished rebuilding a Winton Mogul, I'm fond of the Winton moguls but the Green Goddess really looked sharp. Thank you, Pat! I plan on painting my 2.5" scale Mogul a lot likt the Goddess. Great going Marty! You're a busy guy with grand-kids and all, along with your 'business hobbies'! G...

Re: MACH3 and MPG Pendant

Hope this was sorted out... I had many issues with the C22 CNC4PC pendant interface card - many issues. It would work great one day and not another. I threw in the towel with the interface and the pendant. Go to Vistacnc and check the iMach III - it is USB and boots with the computer not Mach3 and i...

Re: Need a Quiet 12v Air compressor

Dry ice dropped into distilled water will make lots of pressure in a closed high pressure container... and it does so very quietly. If the volume needed or the length of time/pressure is low - volume and pressure can the 'throttled' by the insulation of the container. A remote controlled propane tor...

Re: Power Drawbar

I agree about the air compressor - I place mine way far away from where I am. When is blows up or throws a rod it will be all alone to do so... Its a necessary evil because I get too dizzy blowing chips away by mouth - and I do try sometimes..

Re: Your thoughts on a replacement compressor

Harold, are you saying that you have contemplated drinking from a spittoon? No-one really knows what would happen if it gets really tough, do they?

Re: Mach3 and digitizing with 3d probe to create G code

There was a discussion here a while back about doing a 3D CAD model of a locomotive driver and the fillets on the model. My method is to make the 3D model without fillets and size a cutter for the fillet. I suppose the main reason for that is because my CAD software will not form a fillet between to...

Re: Mach3 and digitizing with 3d probe to create G code

I believe this task is like any other CNC work. A person must have an understanding of what can and cannot be done and that would include the tooling size and shape to do the machining - especially contouring. This digitizing software is setup for an objects size and the detail required which is the...

Re: Power Drawbar

Electric impact wrench? Actually no I didn't consider electric... Air impacts seem more common and for the small size of this one I'm not so sure an electric one would work as well - but I don't know. Although I have an old Snap-On 1/2" electric impact that works great - another antique - recently h...

Try Probeit - craftycnc.com - Probeit can be used w/o a license but limits the size of the surface to be digitized. $30.00 gives you an unlimited number of points. Download for free and use your digitizing probe for objects of any size or shape - external or internal with 'Probeit" as is... Loads in...

Re: Moriya Stirling Engine Build

I used 'SILVALOY' brazing alloy 50...what I have always kept for silver brazing. It looked OK when brazed as I remember. Used small oxyacetylene torch to braze the stainless steel hot end together. I may have completely overheated it with an alcohol burner I made to run Moriya. (I also may have over...

Power Drawbar

Thought I would try this... made two and they work better than I expected. Didn't cost too much since the "butterfly" air impact wrenches are currently on clearance at Harbor Freight ($18.95 ea). The aluminum frame parts (1/4 X 2" flat bar) were machined on the CNC for their contours and fit to the ...
