Re: Please help me identify this Mini Lathe!
Brittania maybe?
Re: Power
That sounds complicated.
Power
I've picked up a 9" smart and brown sabel lathe that came with a rough looking 1/2hp 3 phase motor. I don't have a 3 phase supply so i need to change the motor. I do have a 320 watt single i could fit but would it have enough grunt? Does more power actually equal more cutting ability, or is it ...

Re: Cast brass for lathe parts?
Thanks
I haven't come across any bronze scrap in ten years as they tend to be more commercial size valves.
I might make a back plate for my newly aquired 9" lathe out of brass to practice cutting the threads.

Re: Holding a chuck in a collet?
Many ways to skin a cat i guess.
I wonder where the practice of using them came from given so many alternatives.
Having said that can you have too many accessories?

Re: Holding a chuck in a collet?
Thanks
I've got the machine home now and I've decided to do a full strip down and rebuild in fresh paint.
I also found two face plates and a catch plate so no rush to bodge anything now.
I'll still be making some back plates once it's up and running though.

Re: Holding a chuck in a collet?
If i make a back plate with a spigot instead of a threaded hole i can hold the spigot in a collet
Thereby allowing me to use both despite only having one threaded backplate.
My concern is that I'm getting away from the headstock.

Holding a chuck in a collet?
I've aquired a smart and brown sabel lathe and it only comes with one back plate. As it has an unusual nose thread (1.75 x 8tpi)and I'm not yet up to speed on thread cutting it leaves me in a bit of a bind. Ultimately i'll make some more but in the mean time would it be outlandish to fit a collet ch...
