Two days ago I had the chance to see Gerd's steam donkey in real life.
It looks perfect and runs like a clockwork!
I'm looking forward to see it in steam

A.B.A. (under the footboard pilot) is an abbreviation for Al Armitage.
The full drawing of this Shay can be found in the Narrow Gauge & Short Line Gazette Mar/April 1995 on Page pages 44 to 47.

to my knowledge is an oil check valve not permitted on a displacement lubricator system.
