Re: Track Tamping Tools

As others have noted, the search function within Chaski can be overwhelming and will provide too much data. Using Google and adding "chaski" to the first part of the search results in far better success to find results. Getting back on topic, there have been topics related to this in the p...

Re: steam channel

There is no evidence the steam hobby is dying. In fact there is ample evidence the steam hobby is the biggest it has ever been. The fact is, there are more miniature steam engines in existent now than there has ever been. The amount of steam engines that are being built new or being refurbished far ...

Re: Joining rail on track

You should mention if you are using aluminum rail vs steel as that does make a difference. You don't need to slot the rails if you are using slotted jointers. For steel rail, a standard loose clearance hole for the hardware you are using would suffice. If you are using aluminum rail, good idea would...

Re: Lettering on engine

Hello Mr LaFavor, are you the man who bought from the lady in Georgia the decal/lettering business? I got the lettering that I have on my tender from her, she was very helpful to work with, my paint scheme is flat black and white, silver smoke box . Thank you for all the information that all have g...

Re: Lettering on engine

Thank you. That is better than what I got off the videos, (but I bet I had more fun watching them). To each their own passion. I found much enjoyment reading the Painting and Lettering Guide book I indicated above to see the differences over time and get the history behind the paint schemes and mar...

Re: Lettering on engine

There are multiple sources for this information for SP locomotives. One being the book "Southern Pacific Painting and Lettering Guide". The numbers used under steam locomotives (or diesels) were not made up as they served a specific purpose to rely information about the engine. For steam e...

Re: Lettering on engine

What railroad are you looking to model after? And at what time period? Each one had it's own system on what information they placed there, what it meant, and when it was applied. For example, Big Boy has a lot of markings (easily found on google) but early 1900's engines would typically list the eng...

Re: 20 and 30lb horizontial propane tanks - good deal

Standard 20lb propane tanks are 18" tall which is well above the inside height for a boxcar. Even a high cube car doesn't have that inside height. There are some heavy modifications to the frame and floor of a car needed to mount 20lb tanks vertically in the car. As for filling horizontal tanks...
