Re: Good supplier of water gauge glass? 1/2" O.D

My first experience with Live Steam Models of England appears to have gone well. They took PayPal, I didn't see an exorbitant processing fee for international banking, shipping/handling cost a bit more, and the order arrived in California within about seven days. http://www.livesteammodels.co.uk/shop/

Re: Good supplier of water gauge glass? 1/2" O.D

Bill, Thank you for the tips. Another friend is preparing a 1-3/4" x 5mm tube and I'll be sure to get notes from him too.

Re: Good supplier of water gauge glass? 1/2" O.D

So the existing glass in the Stan James' Juliet was .200 inches in diameter. Turned out the drawing called for a 3/16" (.1875) so to cover our bases we've ordered both 3/16" and 5mm (.1968") replacement tubes. The 3/16" is coming from PM Research while the 5mm tube is coming from Live Steam Models i...

Re: Good supplier of water gauge glass? 1/2" O.D

How about .200" diameter? So far no luck with McMaster, LocoParts, Blackgates, Stuart, etc. PM Research has 3/16" O.D. which is a bit too small. I'm still searching while also checking with friends. Many thanks, Bruce

Re: Golden Gate Live Steamers in Days Gone By !!

While taking my 0-4-0T into the foothills of the Sierras in search of a new whistle, an old member spotted us and came up to say, "Hi." During our conversation, he mentioned he had an old VHS tape of the early years of GGLS and its founder, Victor Shattock. Recently I acquired the tape and here it i...

Re: Candice Bergen remembers Disney's railroad

Wow! Brings back memories of my childhood and a few weeks ago when I was running my 4-6-0. I warn parents that I used to be the kid behind the fence and now I've three locomotives. "Watch out or your kids might end up like me in another fifty years." That's usually good for a laugh.

Re: WHO NEEDS CNC?

I signed up for a Junior College course... You are lucky to have found one at all. Indeed. Even sadder is there is a second Junior College in the area that has the equipment but no instructor so it's been sitting idle (Diablo Valley College in Concord, CA, vs. Chabot College in Hayward, CA). Meanwh...

Re: WHO NEEDS CNC?

Very impressive & many thanks Dave! By any chance do you have a post on how you learned your skills? Mentor? School of hard knocks? Junior High/High School Metal Shop? The shop at M.I.T.? Along of course with years-and-years of experience! A bit off topic from CNC but I gotta' learn to walk before I...

Re: Steam Whistle notes/sounds/etc

Rizzoli Locomotive Works builds steam whistles and their web site has examples of the wonderful sounds they create. There are the sounds of roughly forty steam whistles under the tabs: 3 Chime, 5 Chime, and 6 Chime. Select a tab, scroll down to the photographs, and click on them to play. Their web s...
