Re: Curious what everyone else does after a swarf filled day

I clean as I go. I find it easier to clean up a bunch of small messes than one big one. My father was an auto mechanic for many years. He taught me a lot and enough to know I didn't want to be a wrench because of the business. He told me " The tools that aren't in your box at the end of the day...

Re: NJ/NYC/LI Machinery Movers

Hey John- All the good ones have been listed, Pedowitz, Hopatcong, Izzi, a few others. Tow companies can be pretty good if you can find a guy to work with you. At 5-6k lbs you're actually pretty light. We hauled a pretty ancient and big TIG back in 2011 on the back of an equally ancient and borrowed...

Re: Eccentric Conversation (Axle Pump Related)

Hi Bill- I think that's the whole sticking point. Perhaps I should just build the silly thing, make it fit, and not worry about it. I want to avoid the pitfalls of being over-thought and under-engineered yet at the same time, there is an engine in the stable with an ungodly number of hard miles on h...

Eccentric Conversation (Axle Pump Related)

Hello there Chaski peoples! I am in the process of restoring a ten-wheeler which was built with a LE style axle pump. Now I know the applicability and appropriateness of Axle-Pumps is always a charged topic of discussion with fervent support for and against their use. That said, I like an axle pump ...

Re: Suspension problems

I need advice on how to properly balance the wheel loads on my 1" LE Atlantic, the drivers are slipping badly. Is the purpose of the equalized suspension just to maintain wheel contact with the rails, or is it also a means to adjust the weight distribution on the wheels? If it is a means to ad...

That's great!

Any recollection on how many you put together back in the day? I seem to remember there being around 15-16 of these running around.

It would be interesting to see where they all wound up.

Re: GETTING BACK TO PATTERN MAKING

Hey Dave!! Give us a hint!!! Will you be remaking the venerable Mercer Steeple Cab of old? Great little engines!! Big enough to be fun yet small enough to haul everywhere. I still have mine (1607) and I'm sure Long island Dennis (now Central New York Dennis I suppose) still has his! Mine is still ci...

The DILLYDILLY man is driving all the way from Florida for this occasion, so let`s see if one of our wiseguys can top that.  :D Well. That changes everything. Will there be a "Bahtree Chargah" involved? Couldn't help but fire up the way back machine for that one-liner.. Hear...

Re: Is Good Boiler Care Enough?

Great write-up!!

There are three tools every boiler owner should have;

1) Decent Bore Scope
2) TDS meter
3) pH Test Strips.

Use #2 and 3 religiously when hot. Like Ice-Cube says "Check ya self before you wreck yo self."

Re: THE GG1 STARTS TO TAKE SHAPE

There has been some work with "Tempering" or "Annealing" PLA parts. Depending on how you have your machine set-up with infill, number of outer rings, etc., the shrinkage is purported to be around 2-5% X and Y and about the same growth in the Z(see "hackaday" link below)...

Re: Is the live steam hobby in decline?

The hobby isn't declining; it's evolving. The millennials (kids) are just getting to the point they can start to enjoy the fruits of their labors. Many of them are educated, and, with enough will and YouTube videos, can figure it out. Attracting this crowd is tough because for many, the debts of hig...
