Re: Milling machine identification

It seems to be an Enco 100-5201, also sold as a Grizzly G1004. But we'll know tomorrow. I'm going to take pictures of the whole machine shop. He said If I'll help him sell all the other stuff on Ebay, he'll give me the mill and all the tooling for free. He did conform that his company bought it new ...

Re: Ghost Gunner

A ghost gunner is a very small, 3 axis horizontal milling machine. They work like a charm for pieces up to their table size. I even made a 3c collet indexer and small tall stock for mine. I know, Ive got way to much time on my hands. I use mine primarily for engraving aluminum and cnc drilling muzzl...

Re: Please, talk me out of buying this Hendey Lathe

I just don't understand how anyone can drop 12k dollars, on a machine that will never earn its keep. I like old iron more than most, primarily because I'm so young, and learned CNC first. But a machine that cant pay for itself, Is not a tool, Its a toy, and 12k is to much for a toy. If it was relega...

Re: Please, talk me out of buying this Hendey Lathe

Here's the problem, Its worth it, but who can afford to sink that kind of money into a lathe that isn't going to be used in a production environment. Its a tool. A tool is suppose to make you money. Maybe some museum will turn up to claim it. If they do, I'd pay 5 bucks to see a museum that saves pi...

Re: Please, talk me out of buying this Hendey Lathe

I just checked out the auction site. If the name of the game is "he with the most at death wins", the games over. This guy must have been 114 years old, and won the lottery at some point. All he really needed was a bigger shop. These tools don't need to go to a museum, they've been in a mu...

Re: How close is close enough?

First off, I'm still pretty new, so precision seems to be relative to who your talking to. I started making muzzle brakes and gas blocks because they didn't have to be nearly as precise as I thought, and If I screw up, Its only time. I can smelt my own aluminum again. But as Ive gotten more experien...

Re: Lubricants to use on the moving parts of a lathe????

I'm still pretty new, but I did some experimenting with oil for my ways, and found air tool oil to be the cleanest, and easiest to use. The first and last thing I do when I start and end for the day is wipe down the ways, and re-oil them. The whole machine works easier now than I did when it was cov...

Re: .22LR Suppressor build

I'm planning to bore my end cap, baffles, and mount 5/16s, and use a piece of threaded rod to hold tension on the whole stack. when I slide them down the inside of the tube, it will hold them straight, and the rod will hold them tight together. The set screws should hold everything in place, and tig...

Re: Craigslist find of the month

Hey, I traded a inexpensive rifle for a 4500 dollar lathe, and we were both happy to have the pieces we got. Sometimes things just work out to one persons advantage. But I know this, the guy that sold them was an MD, and he had less interest in machine tools, than he would in the injuries the user g...

Re: Craigslist find of the month

Well, I think it was definitely the buy of the month. He sold them both for 100 bucks.
