Re: snifter valves

I would put drifters on the RRSC mikado or you could pull crud into the cylinders and valves when drifting. People will say oh you can leave the throttle slightly cracked, but that won't always happen and when you forget or someone else is running it, you'll pull grit into the cyls/valves.

Re: Mogul Kit Differences

Here's a video i found of the LE 2-6-0 as a SP 1829. I would go this route, it is very similar visually and you'd be happier in the long run with outside valve gear.

Re: Mogul Kit Differences

Someone built a really nice Southern pacific 2-6-0 from a LE kit. No real changes other than aesthetics. Honestly I'd go that route. Outside valve gear is much easier to work on and frees up space under the frame. Building a "stock" LE 2-6-0 would be much easier than putting LE cylinders on a allen ...

Are the forms removed or kept buried under the track?

Re: Okadee Blow down valve sets

A online store would be great for any supplier! The easier it is to spend money the better from a supplier's perspective...

Re: Your RR grading methods??

Are the wood forms removed ? Seems like a ton of extra work building all those wood forms then leaving them under the actual track.

Id think one of the Small size EE injectors would be great for that. That way you can leave it on longer without worrying about dropping boiler pressure.

Re: Stainless steel boiler/exchanger?

Harold, thanks.

So it's more a cost issue than a problem with the actual monel material. It also seem the heat conductivity value for monel is much much lower than Copper and somewhat lower than carbon steel. Is the price of duplex SS that much more affordable ?

Re: Stainless steel boiler/exchanger?

My question was more a hypothetical, just curious how they would work. Not going to suggest going out and buying it. the average guy can't afford a 7-8k boiler for a mikado either...
