Update on progress,,,D reamers and depth guages done,
Just waiting for the brass to be delivered,will start on the body in the mean time,

The problem I had was I just miss read the increments on the compound slide,and the tooling is dead center,

I got the working drawings for a 40oz injector I need to make a 9deg and a 13 deg Dbits,I just stuffed up setting my compound slide on the first one I made,but still a good training excersise

Hi,Julian,yre wright,the angle is steeper than 9 degrees I made a technical error.it came out at 14degrees,put it down to being too late at night,the shank size is 1/4inch,
That one is now in the bin,remade two (the correct angle this time) last night,

That's a good idea trainman,I've got some for my dremmel,will have to investigate
I gave my D reamer a test and it worked well on phosphorous bronze,haven't tried it on anything harder yet don't want to distroy it

Just a update,for those who are interested, Spent some time in my workshop getting a start on the injector,made the 9degree D reamer,from a broken tap,(I new I kept it for a reason)annealed it first then machined the tapper,surprised how easily it machined,,then reharden it. next is the 13 degree D ...

I'm in New Zealand,as far as I know I'll have the only one in the country,,the boiler is now complete,and foot plate fitted,will post some more pic's shortly

Anthony Your right the whole point of making my own injector is to challenge myself,just to be able to say at the next convention at my local railway, (yes I made it,)I can order one online tomorrow if I wanted but what's the fun in that. It's better to try and fail than not to try at all,

I have done a fair bit of stainless machining all my valves are made from 316,I'll get in touch with my local supplier and see if they stock 416, if not 303 maybe,,I think trying to make the cones out of 316 is just asking for trouble
