Thanks Greg. Guess another seam that has to be water tight is another risk of leaks.

Re: 3/4" Raritan 2-4-0 build.

Tomorrow is tax free weekend in my state and am trying to figure out what I need. Mostly for the tender right now. Looks like I need 1/16 brass for floor and sides. Will this do? https://www.ebay.com/itm/294157227015?hash=item447d231407:g:M9gAAOSwYW9gkAlx I just noticed they want $31.20 just for shi...

Re: 3/4" Raritan 2-4-0 build.

Drawing & picture you are referring to? Text descriptions are difficult for me to get a handle on. RussN Oh you've got a Raritan book? I'm referring to the holes in part 4-2 which go into the angle brackets or "Frame Corner Braces (4-6)" as they call it. Can't really drill the holes f...

Re: Do you guys check off parts on your drawings/book as you do them?

I do mark the drawings with date completed, time consumed, and notes for future reference, especially if alterations to the part were made. It is instructive to add up the machining and fabrication time. You might be amazed how much time it takes to build your locomotives. RussN Yeah. Could be amaz...

Re: Do you guys check off parts on your drawings/book as you do them?

What drawings? Small parts go in turkey tubs, the containers from Wife's lunchmeat. But that doesn't mean I'll remember what those little thingies are for. I don't have a problem with Venutians, but I do have an evil shop goddess who comes in at night and messes things up. I also have a well-organi...

Re: Do you guys check off parts on your drawings/book as you do them?

Yes ..with a date...have similar problem to 'finding' parts already completed. If I am working from drawings I created ..I have two filing sections...one is marked DONE. It is also a note that I put in the title box section of my CAD system drawing. where the part is...well -> it is up to the Venut...

Do you guys check off parts on your drawings/book as you do them?

Trying to be organized as I do this. Have been finding myself looking through the book saying "Oh yeah, already did that part" or "already have that part" a bit too much. Do you guys check them off as you make the parts or find the parts? Or perhaps put an X through optional part...

Re: 3/4" Raritan 2-4-0 build.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Couldn't remember my password but I'm back now. Took a break after I screwed up those axles. Recent work has been cutting the 4 corner brackets that hold pilot beam and rear tie bar on, but I can't drill the holes in the tie bar and pilot beam for them until I at lea...

Re: 3/4" Raritan 2-4-0 build.

I don't really have to worry too much about what I've already done cause a pilot truck and a 15 pound tender don't see a lot of load do they?. But when it's time to do the wheels for the riding car I've got to do a better job cause those see a heavy load don't they? Well anyway I think I'm going to ...

Re: 3/4" Raritan 2-4-0 build.

I agree with Bill. If you choose to use LocTite, you are best served to follow the maker's instructions. I light press fit most likely will exclude any applied locking compound, so you'll be at the mercy of the press fit alone, which is likely to fail. Locking compounds work ONLY if they have a pla...
