Looking good!
Thanks!
Once the cowcatcher is painted I'll call my Goose finished. There are a couple other details that I would like to add but they will wait for now. I've got another project that I'm anxious to get into.
The cowcatcher is nearly complete. It was a really interesting part to make. Everything is silver soldered together from bar which went surprisingly well. 20240323_150016_crop_65_resize_91.jpg The bottom flat bar was made in two pieces joined with a plate underneath then soldered together. It could ...
Here is a comparison with the full size goose no 1 replica. The windshield looks a bit tall in my model but other than that the proportions are pretty good.

My Goose is nearly complete. Most of detail work completed since the last update. The last of the 3D printed parts were modeled and printed. The wood cab and roof was built along with the wood rack for the back. All of the 3D printed parts were sanded, primed, sanded, filled, sanded, primed again, s...
My gears are the same ones called out in the original plans. I purchased them from MRO Supply for $155 US. They still have them in stock but the price has gone up to about $230 US for the set of gears. I’m not sure if they ship internationally but the below links should give you enough info to find ...
This is from my Clishay build thread: 2194_001_resize_87.jpg The transmission is made up of the drive gear on the engine, three idler gears and the main gear. The axis of the drive gear and main gear are stationary. The idler gears are held together with plates that can pivot around the main shaft. ...
I have no particular fondness for either systems. I mostly use imperial since that is what most of my tooling and machines use. It is also hard to get metric stock in the US. Back to the original question, I would look into the various casting kits for filers. I built the MLA filing machine a couple...
Honestly I would love to jump on this but it is just not in the budget for me right now and I’m not sure that I’m ready to take on another project. You might want to try listing them on the Live Steam Swap and Shop Facebook groups. You might get some more traction there. This is a great forum but I ...
I took a bit of a hiatus from my goose build for a bit this winter. This past month I finally got back to work on it. Mostly because the first meet is coming up this weekend. I decided to 3D print the radiator and hood. I picked up a 3D printer in January and have done quite a bit of printing since ...
I just noticed that Blondihacks over on YouTube is building a die filer so I figured I would post an a update on my build. The die filer has come in handy a couple of times but I have not used it quite as much as I thought. That is mostly due to do with the projects I've been working on. I have a fe...
Making slow progress. I had another successful run at the PVLS blowdown meet. There were two other gooses there which gave me some great ideas. I think I've decided to scratch build the cab. The castings are not all that expensive but I kind of like the challenge of building everything myself. I'm p...
