Re: Your RR grading methods??

Roto-Till the route twice as wide as your track. Rake all the fines and growth to one side. Roto-Till again. Rake these fines to the other side. Repeat till you get deep enough to lay a 4" perforated drain tile.( Notice, you are not digging hard dirt) Form both sides as an embankment and seed with g...

Re: Wooden refrigerator car

Before you run off to THD, look up Tambour Wood. One of the vendors there, Surfacing Solutions, has a cross section that might better replicate car siding. Quite a variety of sizes & specie offered.
My question to the guys that have used it is how did you cut it? And, before applying it or after?

Re: Your RR grading methods??

We used to spray a soil sterilent (sp?) once a year. As Bob used to say:"That stuff will kill rocks!" Got it at Blain's Farm & Fleet, no prescription required, at least then.

Re: LOUD diesel horns?

Wolo makes 12 volt compressor/horn sets and their largest is touted as a locomotive horn. They are loud. Auto parts stores may have them cheaper than buying from Wolo themselves

Re: Cannonball box cabs/

How about a Cannonball box cab 8 wheel chassi with a Little Mack cab centered on the deck and home made sloping noses on each end topped off with a trolley pole? Simple way to get a steeple cab.

Re: Ballast tipple design request

Why not just get a gravity box like the farmers use to haul grain from the fields? They come in a variety of sizes and fit on standard farm running gear or could be set on a foundation next to the tracks and disguised as an industry. Or, if you put on a running gear, you could tow it to the gravel p...

Re: 10 Plastic Tie performance Questions

I would like to find the source of the plastic ties that Train Mountain uses. I believe it is an extrusion of recycled plastic. The thing that appeals to me is that it is solid.
Has anybody ever used Trex or similar decking products?

Re: "Trip Track" signals

Street car lines used a device on the trolley wire that detected a trolley wheel passing. The system counted cars in and out between these installations. A car backing thru a detector it had just cleared caused a bad wreck on TMER&L since the device only worked in one direction. Track occupancy is a...

Re: Insurance Question

Prairie State RR Club in Northern Illinois has just encountered the same problem. Agent suggested we go with Interstate Fire & Casualty for a premium of $3500 per site. We have two sites. Last year we paid $1400 for both locations. Anybody have a better idea short of becoming a static display? Bud B...
