With the replies received so far I will not apply snifters to the loco I am building. It seems that by appling the cutoff valve and the throttle as done on the full size modern steam engines little or no debris will be entering the piston valves. I will use the wooden plug trick as advised by B&...

Can't this also be done by the ports machined into the liners? I am stumped.

Is it necessary for snifter valves to be installed on modern piston valve steam locomotives? I see them on lots of PRR engines but none on modern NYC and NKP locomotives.

A Halloween message

Yes, one of the local clubs actually had 2 nites, last friday and saturday. To bad all we had was cold weather and rain but the people showed up just for the rides thru the haunted woods. That would be Mud Creek. A good time was had by all.
