For those who want longer tenders for the larger steam engines, check out Locoparts. He has them.

Re: Night Running & Lights?

Don't use red cab lighting if your water glass has a red background though. You will have a harder time seeing the water level.

Re: Trailer Features

Trailer tires tend to take a beating and are subject to things vehicle tires are not. On a multiple axle trailer the tires are being dragged sideways on every turn which is hard on the tread. Trailer tires are much more likely to be banging into curbs which is hard on sidewalls. And yes, most of the...

Re: Arch between engine stand and P/U

Regarding the aluminum pan from Big Boots. I have had engines weighing close to 1000 pound on the pan without problems. With the turned up edges it is surprisingly strong.

Re: Arch between engine stand and P/U

I would suggest a aluminum pan like what the Big Boots & Western RR in Florida is selling. You can see it on Discover Live Steam. I have one and it works well.

There is (or at least was) a vendor on DLS that was offering ends and dome lids for tank cars.

Re: LOUD diesel horns?

Two suggestions. First suggestion. Go to a automotive recycling yard and hunt for the horns off of something like a Regal or other luxury car. They sound rather nice, although a bit more like a boat horn than locomotive in my opinion. You need to get all 3 or 4 horns though for the nice sound, and t...

Re: Question: parts for a steamer

Regarding tender design and propane, I would vote for carrying the tank(s) in the first car behind the tender. The need for supplying external heat to assist in vaporization in the tank will depend on ambient temperature and how fast you are drawing propane from the tank. It has been my experience r...

Re: Another New Guy wants a 10-wheeler

The first thing I would say is welcome to the hobby. The second would be to build what you want to build. Having said that, I would mention Mercer Locomotive Works' 0-4-0 in 7.25 or 7.5 gauge. It is small, but will pull like a mule since all weight is on the drivers. Dave currently has the casting s...
