Sometimes Enco branded rotary tables and dividing heads are actually Vertex, made in Taiwan. I was pleasantly suprised a few years back when I bought an Enco Dividing head and it turned out to be Vertex. Frequently a seller on Ebay "thetoolsupermarket" who sells Vertex who will do a deal o...

Its hard to say comparing the Enco, Phase 2, and Grizzly. Reason is Grizzly and Enco can change suppliers at a moments notice. I have ordered in the past an Enco listed product only to be very pleasantly suprised when I opened it and found Vertex which IMO is a cut above Phase 2 and most Grizzly stu...

" If it were a Yuasa, then I think they would adverise it as such. (Although I really do not know what is special about the Yuasa.) " What is special about Yuasa is that it is a top notch, high end product made in Japan. You could buy 5 of the grizzlys for the same price as a Yuasa (News) ...

Re: DROs

One of the things that has keep me away from considering DROs is the bulkiness, the wring, the pain installing it and calibrating. Jose, I use to feel this way till I heard people rave about their Newall DROs and how easy they are to install. Back in 2005 I bit the bullet and bought one when I boug...

Rich C. Not trying to get into a pissing contest on DRO's. If you can go full length on your mill repeatedly back and forth and come back to start and be within .0005" you are doing very well indeed. Most folks would be thrilled if their Shooting Star would do that. Dealer cost on 2 axis Newall...

I have used a Shooting Star for 3 years and Newall for almost 3 years. No comparison. Shooting Stars are accurate to .002" full range according to their own documentation. Newall is accurate full range to .0002" with no cumulative error like Shooting Star is prone to. The Newall costs more...

12L14, just a little more expensive than 1018, cuts like butter, doesn't like to be welded.

Jim, my experience has been that current production Jacobs chucks are junk. Jacobs is now owned by holding co. and the typical drop in quality , max profit scenario is taking place. I use a SPI keyless chuck, less than .002 runout 1" from chuck on pin gage. Chuck has a spanner to double the tig...

Regarding Jacobs Chucks, ball bearing and otherwise, ones of very recent manufacture have been a huge disappointment to me and all have been returned for credit. My experiences are not unique, based on reports by others. Jacobs is now owned by a huge holding company and quality has gone down hill. P...
