Re: Favorite train movie

My favs are: 1. The Natural: Robert Redford and Midwest's ex-GTW USRA Light Mike #4070, the first mainline steam engine I ever experienced on the CVL in Cleveland. Filmed on the NY&LE in Gowanda, NY. I guess their track was really in much better shape back in the early 80's, though that's still hard...

ASR Reading T-1 No. 2100 Restoration Update

Well, 2018 has sure been an exciting and very productive year for American Steam Railroad Preservation (ASR) and the team working to get the Reading T-1 No. 2100 back in steam. Thanks to all of dedicated and faithful donors and volunteers who have helped us get to where we are today. Without you, th...

Re: Train Mountain Track Building update

Regarding tamping or surfacing of track, the prototype only tamps the four corners where each rail crosses the tie. We do not tamp the ends or the middle to avoid center binding the tie. The support is only needed directly under the rails. In 1.5" scale, I have never tamped the centers or the ends e...

Re: Project: N&W class J on 5"gauge

Chris, all I can say is "WOW"! Wish I was this far along my C&O J-3a. Love seeing your construction techniques as the Greenbrier are of the same generation of steam as the N&W J's. Especially your pilot truck. Giving some good ideas, for sure. Would love to see even more photos of the lead truck fra...

Re: battle for the hill

Wow! Impressive. Thanks for sharing, Dan! Glad to see the 4005 on the rails and in steam. Looks like he also bought a lot of Tom's freight rolling stock as well. Looks great. Bet she'll pull a lot more than 17 freight cars, lol.

Re: Riding scale 4-8-4

Well, to make this thread a little more "Grand Scale" relevant, Mike Weldon in Fordland, MO has already built a similar 3776 class ATSF 4-8-4 in 1.5" scale and is very well along on a 3" scale version. A few years ago, the running gear was done and the boiler was mounted on the chassis. Not many pho...
