Re: Packing a tube for bending
1. The tube could be tightly packed with a molten Polymer to prevent the tube from folding or collapsing when bending ... 2. One might even try to use molten Sugar for packing. Then the packing could be removed simply by bathing the bent tube in a Water Bath.. Molten Sugar can be a fire hazard, thou...

Re: Source for valve handles
If you guys would look more closely... This is a special sliderule for the calculation of effectiveness of combustion, from fluegas analysis etc. Who of you is able to check this the 'old' way? In my early years I did work in oil-refineries (see company logo on the sliderule) and it was a common tas...

Re: Roller bearings for eccentrics?
At the Show in Harrogate this spring, a loco was presented, where most moving parts are fitted with bearings or rollers. Re: Roller bearings for eccentrics?
This eccentric of a drive-pump has a thin ball bearing, permanently (really ?) lubricated, and tight against water and dirt.
It was a standard bearing, that I picked from this location. http://www.bearingboys.co.uk/Thin_Secti ... tAodhgvjSQ

Re: Allen axle pump
I have a number of pumps like the these in various stages of completion (or parts) for locos in 7.5 (7.25) & 5". They were from the legacy of a wellknown Life Steamer her in the UK, who sadly passed away. If anybody is interested, send me an email. Johannes (aka the "Yorkshireman"...

Re: GAUGE GLASS CUTTING
The method described by AusDan is the way we were trained long time ago, when I was a freshman in Chemistry.
Works perfectly!
A cut tube as proposed by Tim has microscopic cracks near the cut.
The ends of the tube must always be heated to a faint glow to get a smooth and solid surface.
