Re: What is the best of the 3-in-1's?

I have the Smithy 1220 LTD. You can read my thought's on this machine by running a search under my user name. I think this is the best 3 in 1 machine for the size and the $'s available + Smithy support and accessory's are all together on there web site. If you need more information or photos of an a...

Re: enco compound table?

I agree with the above.....but you will probably have to do away with the drill chuck and get the proper size collets for your mill head. I believe you would need a MT2 collet for the mill and the drawbar to tighten it up. With my arrangement, using the angle vice, I can get the proper height for mo...

Re: enco compound table?

I too have the HF model 5980. I have fitted mine using an angle vise, as the lathe already has x and y feeds to center your work piece for milling. Just get a vice to fit the cross slide with the correct height. Mine is a Smithy angle vice, which swivels 360 and zero to 90 up down...........Also I h...

Re: What do you think of this Smithy 3-in-1

I have a Smithy 1220 LTD. When you get your lathe/mill combo, bigger is better. Also, the power cross feed on my LTD is what sold me. So, if your looking for a 3 in 1, get a big one, and one with the power cross feed. Run a search on this forum, a lot of talk on the Smithys.

start up tooling

Take a look at the Smithy site....They have tooling packages for start up. Some of this is Smithy specific, but you may be able to adapt the concept to your needs, then order from your supplier the tools that fit your machine.

70 tooth gear

I went out to my shop and looked up the 70 tooth gear thinking I would be able to help you out. This is one of the gears that go with the primary cluster that I always run on my lathe, (1220 LTD). Sorry, but I think you will have trouble finding anyone willing to give it up. KERMIT

my vote

Having had the Smithy 1220 LTD for about 10 years, I can say that it's the one for me. Good lathe/mill, and good product and parts/accessories support. For the home shop machinist, the 3 in 1's just cant be beat. Look at some of my past comments on my Smithy under my users name.

action wrenches

Just be carefull where you apply the force, (grip) as to much pressure will tend to compress the action at the barrel thread area. I had a Savage 110 action wrench that when tightened to much, the barrel nut would tend to compress, making the removal of the barrel/nut difficult. In this case, a sepe...
