Re: Tender valve

For the tank valve I use 90 deg. ball valves with an extender shaft thru the tank top. For injector starting valve I use globe valves with the treads machined off and installed backwards i.e. the steam pressure holds the valve closed.

" He used the MIG welder, but it is harder to get it to look natural so I want to try the brazing rod. "

You would be surprised how nice welds can look after a little grind and touch up with a flap disk on the 4 1/2" grinder.

Re: New; "Narrow Gauge Exchange", the NG info forum

The "Standards" rules and regulations were a tad bit too demanding for me. My Shay is pretty close to what it should be but I had no way to get builders drawings for it. So I never ask to join.

From the picture and the caboose behind the engine looks like it is 1 1/2" scale.

Re: Piston Ring Drag

One other possibility is the ring grove is not deep enough i.e. not allowing the ring to fully compress.

Re: SP NG Diesel #1 (GE 50T) - Triennial or Bust

I was there at the NG meet also but sorry to say I did not see you loading or unloading. FWIW I would say TM would not be a good place to trial run anything. Just too far from anything if you get in trouble and it sounds like you did. If you get all the bugs out you may want to reconsider trying TM ...

Re: Union copper tube to 1/4-40 MTP ?

Just drill out one side of the threaded union and sweat solder to your copper tube.
