Re: Propane firing question

Thanks gents. I shouldn't have any problems then putting one in since I have a deep firebox.

Propane firing question

I am thinking about changing to propane. All my engines have burned oil and had arches.
Is an arch normally used in propane firing?

RR Crossing SHanty

OK I know this is not exactly Live Steam but it is kinda related. I am building a full size C&NW crossing Shanty based on Banta Model works kit. Here is the progress so far. It is actually my new pump house for the well. The coal box is still to be made. Does anyone have photos of actual C&NW shanty...

Re: Never seize in lieu of pipe dope

back to the topic. Never seize works fine on tapered pipe thread. NPT and MPT are interference fits which means self sealing. Straight threads on the other hand not so much.

BTW most Dupont plants don't use Teflon tape because the little threads it creates get plugged in instruments.

Re: Reverse is fine, no forward

The first place to start is checking the timing. There are several posts here on timing Stephenson gear. Short of that just take the steam chest cover off and watch the valve motion as you roll the engine back and forth. You may need to add some washers to two of the steam chest studs to hold it in ...

Re: Re-light an oil burner

I used a commercial spark plug igniter connected to a Ford spark generator. Worked fine a short time but in the same short time the oil fouled the plug. Simple solution is to carry a propane torch with push button start. As it turns out after firing for several years on oil I have learned how not to...

Re: New Propane car

The cold temperature the propane can reach can cause the seals to get hard and crack on the quick connect air fittings

Good thought...……..

Re: New Propane car

Steel plates are mounted on the car frame. A slot is provided at the back of each plate that holds the footplate of the tank. The front tank bracket has a hole which a 5/16 bolt is used to secure the tank. The tanks are removed for filling. The 30# tanks are designed to fill in the vertical and use ...

New Propane car

Still have a few details to add and need to get the second 30 lb. tank. I have quick connects on each end and can isolate each tank.

Re: Possibility for a 2.5" scale dynamo

I agree with Fred. I have a turbine blade from a model jet engine and when I hit it with my shop air It easily spins up to 10,000 rpm. In fact it is scary to hold the shaft I spin it on.
