Re: Regauging pressed on wheels

Important, do you have 3/8" between the frame and driver. I changed the wheel profile on my mogul to match 5" scale standards by installing new tires but I had to make a little compromise because the new profile would rub the frame.

Re: Where can I find 1/8 tee barbed metal or plastic for air line?.

1/4" Instrument air tubing is just over 1/8" I.D. I have tee's for this tubing which measures 3/16" O.D. plus the barbs.

Re: Another plumbing question

The injector valves on my SHay are both globe valves with the threads machined off the stem. They push/pull for off/on.
Just make sure they are installed backwards to normal i.e. the steam pressure keeps the valve closed..

Re: Plumbing question

Just use the check valve as the flat to tighten by. If you need to take it apart use the check again. Leave the nipple in the part it stayed with.
Close nipples are pretty much one time use. If you have to remove it completely throw it away an buy a new one.

Re: Train detector, welded rails - ideas???

Why not just set up a block signal with claim and release on both ends. Claim it when you enter the curve (following trains will see amber)
release the block when you leave the curve. Next train sees green. If you see Red you got a problem. Works the same from the other direction.

Re: Building the 2.5" Scale Shay

As you have heard from others already, wood does not have near the BTU content of oil or coal. The BTU's in wood are factors of which kind of wood and most importantly the moisture content. That is why fireplace wood burns best when it has had a chance to "air dry" for a year. You should be able to ...
