Re: Boiler Treatments

I apologize, I am not currently set up with online ordering. I inherited the website from Jim Conte, and short of totally redoing the website and the hosting, I'm more or less stuck with it until I can write a big check and have someone redo it. Between my full time day job, family, live steam club ...

Re: Alternative position for axle pump Allen Mogul.

The axle pump under my 1" Atlantic worked well for the first year I owned it. I noticed that it wasn't keeping up with boiler water usage and then discovered it was putting more water on the ground than in the boiler. I went to undo the eccentric strap from the ram to replace the packing and ch...

Re: Alternative position for axle pump Allen Mogul.

A good alternative location for an axle pump could possibly be mounted under a tender truck. Use quick connect fittings between the truck and tender body. I'm surprised that I have not seen this done more in the live steam hobby. Personally, I have never had any luck with axle pumps. Granted, they h...

Re: just for laughs

RickBarb - quality over quantity. I've learned a lot from being in Chaski for 20+ years. Some of the nonsense should be moderated, unlike on other platforms. The steam hobby has me very busy, moreso now than in years past. Wish I had more free time to make chips in the shop and post build updates, b...

Re: Curious about a few live steam locomotives

Dan Culp's Ten Wheeler is still owned by his sons Randy and Gary. Has not been steamed for many decades. Dan also built a 1.5" Pennsy E-6, K-5 and a UP Challenger. They had a private railroad at Paul's house called the Deep Run Central, now owned by Paul's son Tad. The railroad and associated b...

Re: Rebuilding a 1" scale 2-10-2

Your boiler care regimen is mostly on point. I would like to add that once water is heated, oxygen ions are driven off into the atmosphere. As soon as boiler water cools, it seeks after those oxygen ions, and the water re-oxygenates, but will absorb 5-10x more oxygen than found in a normal glass of ...

Re: Railroad Warehouse 90-Ton Mikado – 7.25” Gauge Question?

To my knowledge, only one of the RR Warehouse 90 ton Mikado's has been built to 7.25" gauge. Was built by Ed Abate at PLS, but he passed away many years ago. The engine is owned by Dave Johnson of Winchester, VA. Dave may have builders notes from Ed. If my memory serves me right, Ed had quite a...

Re: 1.6" Brill Trolley Mine and Dads new to us project.

I'd be curious to see a wiring schematic for the fire alarm bell in your trolley. I'm rebuilding a 1" scale trolley freight motor and I had a co-worker give me a bell similar size to yours for my project. I'd like it to ring only each time you would press the button. Any help or advice would be...
