Re: Round Ram Upgrade

Sure it is. Hey you got the pancake motor too ! This is going to be great. I think you need get your phases right by use of capacitors' balance. There is lots of info about that. I wouldn't care but those old motors( super long shaft and not top heavy ) are getting ....

Re: want a milling machine

Since OP had mentioned the PM 25 I took a few looks at it. The overall reviews are favorable. At Amazon they are sold out-or were, from Quality Machine. The weight is a little shy at 350 lbs. but the head doesn't wander far from direct to the table and base support. Some or at least one has a DC mot...

Re: want a milling machine

Power fed quill is a different, more expensive machine. I believe he wants it to fit within certain space.

Re: Engineers really know their stuff

Max was a certain position. These didn't have a normal jack but a fixture to capture a certain headed pin at side of the compartment area. The fixture was adjusted and then the height lever adjusted down. The wheel was lifted and ready for removal.

Re: Engineers really know their stuff

As difficult and strange this car was, I will never forget it. It was the advent to FWD and controlled systems. No electronic chips, all engineering. Time took a toll on these with people using the wrong fluids and worst thing, sitting stationary. Stuff rots out and more because the sitting position...

Re: Engineers really know their stuff

Regarding engineering; I've had some experience with the Citroen ID 19 and DS 21. Back in the 1970's they were absolute mayhem to regular auto mechanics. The metric was different than the English metric of roadsters before. There was a continuous hydraulic pump powering the suspension, brakes and st...

Re: want a milling machine

If you buy a round column, you will be criticized forever. Some worked very well and others didn't. The advantages are that the head unit could swing to either side or even backward to drill something but it would always have to be well bolted down. The dove tail type columns have advantage to tilt ...

Re: Round Ram Upgrade

Looks like your are doing a fine rebuild. I thought the round rams were near solid, even though, the V rams had the same tongue at the back. Since both sides allow a head to be tilted L-R by either the adapter or your solid one, there may be another way to use the ram slot. In that case, a section o...

Re: Show us your milling machine!

Your videos are great and examples of choosing the right machinery to be rebuilt. Very nice work and instructional for decades. We are fortunate to have great men, as you, here.

Re: Round Ram Upgrade

Does your HD ram have the key slot? The way the original worked ; The ring gear was keyed to the slot - as you know- and the M 37 adapter also allowed the head to be tilted, side to side. When the ram was rotated 90*, the head could tilt ( Nod ) forward and back. Of course the head would be adjusted...

Re: Round Ram Upgrade

Those solid round rams are massive for an M head. It looks like the ram stroke is adjusted when the head is at 90/ vertical. That is based upon the pix of the turret and the ram rack of his original. It is confusing to me now but has to be more info from charlie.
