Re: Alternative position for axle pump Allen Mogul.

On my 10 Allen Wheeler I put the axle pump between the saddle and the front axle. Mounted on a bracket that bolts to the bottom of the frame rails to make it easy to remove. I never had to remove it since it went into service in 2014. I can change the piston O-ring by pulling the piston with out rem...

Re: What is the best height for a locomotive stand?

I make my stands out of 2x4's and build the to match the height of hight of the unloaded hauling vehicle. I put alumin rail on the stand that extends into the vehicle to meet the track on the hauling board. When loading or loading I put a bottle jack under the vehicle and raise it to the vehicles un...

Re: Preferred fittings in a smokebox?

I prefer to make my own but fittings. Silver solder or npt thread one end and thread the other end to fit a compression tube nut of 1/16" smaller than the tube size being used. Bore out the tube nut accept a square end but farel that has soct to silver solder the tube into. thet seal fine and a...

Re: Loose pilot truck wheel

My experience with having press wheel fits coming loose was always caused by poor surface quality. I bought a few locomotives in various scales over the years. What appeared to happen is with poor surface finish the press fit measurements are on the ridges of the tool marks and these ridges wear awa...

Re: Soil Steamer

Have you considered using a wall paper steamer set up with 2x4 plastic covered plywood panel. They are in $50 to $60 doller range. You do not need pressure just the steam heat.

Re: Pop Valve location suggestions

My suggestion would be to leave these safties where they are at, and add a third valve in the dome. The dome valve can be set a couple psi lower and it preforms the primary pressure relief duty. The existing valves would only kick in in the event the dome valve fails or if you have a serious over fi...

WTB Origional Kozo Shay Book

I am looking to buy the original Kozo Shay book. I recently acquired an 1.5 inch scale shay based on the 3/4 inch Kozo Shay and would like to have it as a construction reference.

Thanks,

Re: Lubricator

I replaced the flex hose on the oil can with a 1/8" or 3/16" fabricated copper tube with the tapered tip to make getting into hard to reach spots. You can bend it to suit, and reaches through spoked wheels and such.

Re: Centering Disc on Vertical Rotary Table?

I have one that has the MT taper, I use MT arbor that I put. I centerdrilled the end and use center finder that has the tapered tip on it to center the table. Is quick and easy to and accurate enough for my needs.
