Re: Boiler to Smoke box alignment

I leveled up the loco frame with machinist level. Set the smoke box on the saddle with was drilled. Leveled the smoke stack. Gave it a good eyeballing and transfered the saddle hole pattern to the smoke box.

Re: Vacuum chuck

We used vacuum fixture plates/chucks for machining thin graphite plates where I worked. Made to fit the blank in production work. Large ones for proto type work, machinist would tape off unused regions to get a good vacuum.

Re: Getting Bearing out of Electric Motor head

Use a Dremal with a small diameter grinding tip. Slot the housing and cit through the ring opposite of the split in the ring. Take the two pieces out after grinding in two. Leaves a groove in housing, but it shouldn't hurt anything.

Re: Allen Models making changes.

I also pitched the brittle castings for my ten wheeler when an tried straightening one and it snapped in two. I used 6061 T6 Aluminum and manually milled them.

303 Stainless water cut blanks would interest me for future engine builds.

Re: Injector Orientation

Super Scale economy injectors have a spring loaded check valve and I usually see them mounted vertical. Mine is mounted that way and works just fine.

Suggested approaches for dual gage drivier axles or wheels

I have an Allen Ten Wheeler built in 7 1/4" gage. When I built it I moved the cylinders out 1/8" on each side and extended the length of the crank pin to match. This was done to allow for regaging to 7 1/2". I am getting a winter place in Florida and would like to have a relatively ea...

Re: Stainless steel balls for check valves and pumps

McMaster sells type 304, 316 and 440 stainless balls, the 316 should not be magnetic. The 304 will be partially magnetic and the 440 will be magnetic.

I have had no issues with the type 316 ones.
