I think I'll pass on something like that with such a low flashpoint. I can get something better that I'm used to working with.
And I have lots of good safety glasses.
Thanks

Re: LE 1 inch scale 060 Rebuild
Yep I get it. The drawing shows that there is an oil hole in the axle that is supposed to feed the bearing. My guess is that oil should flow out through the gap there at the axle. But I am totally unable to get any flow of anything (Air, spindle oil, Kroil) through the hole and out the back (or fron...

Re: LE 1 inch scale 060 Rebuild
Back to this project for a while. I wanted to check the bearings and get an idea of where resistance might be coming from. To do this I pulled the brake rigging off and mounted it and the journal caps on a board. Brakes Removed.png Rather than take everything apart and lose the timing, I disconnecte...

Re: fuel topic
Coal is hard to come by here in California so it makes sense to buy a bunch of it to save on shipping. From past threads there are at least three places where people get coal from recently: 1) Penn-coal http://www.penncoal.com/blacksmith-live-steam.html https://www.chaski.org/homemachinist/viewtopic...

Here are the tables of contents for V1 and V2. I have found both of these books handy over the years as I was never trained as a machinist.
Unlike the internet, I don't have to worry about pages disappearing Hope this is helpful.

The Kershaw family in Alabama is selling its warehouse, so all of the vehicles it contains—whether made to travel land or water—are going up for auction. Re: Dealing with Rusty steel
If you're going to go to all the trouble to weld up something, it only takes a few minutes to clean the material to bare metal. The small hand grinders are very nice and you can get every kind of wheel you would ever want. For steel, the scotch-brite/sandpaper flappers are very aggressive and cheap....

For machining stainless, I think the sulfur in MolyD makes a huge difference. See this post:

Hi Harold,
When you say heat treat to relieve stress, do you mean "normalizing" (heat past critical temp and let cool in air)? Or something else for this specific application?
Thanks,
Steve

Re: Breaking the hold of Loctite
I'm thinking the loctite contribution to the strength is a lot less than the interference fit. Don't heat it, just press apart. In fact, since the wheel cracked, the interference fit strength is reduced. Which Loctite? I'll still bet you don't need heat to press apart. Don't go to 400C! 200C should ...
