Re: Changing nylon gears on a B229
Well, that went way easier than I'd ever dreamed! Hardest part was getting those bloody cir-clips off, a little tap, and out came the shaft...thanks again!

Re: Changing nylon gears on a B229
Excellent, thanks very much Torch! Exactly the feedback I needed.
As for making gears, I can still use the lathe in manual mode, but I'm not sure I'm up to making my own gears. Will definitely take a look at your thread though...cheers!

Changing nylon gears on a B229
Managed to strip one of the plastic gears inside the headstock, and need to remove it to replace it...can anyone provide me with a sound method/procedure of driving out the shaft upon which it sits? There is a circlip that holds the shaft in place in the housing but beyond that, I can't see anything...

Craftex B2229 and Grizzly 9729: Parts interchangeable?
Just tryied to secure a new flange/cover for the chuck side of the lathe spindle through Busy Bee..."not in stock, can take up to 3 months if ordering from China". So, I'm hoping that the equivalent Grizzly part would fit, but before dropping 100 bucks on part/shipping/brokerage, c...

Re: Confused over threading gears
They weren't sloppy, the problem was the spindle was not spinning freely.....there's a spring clip around the drive gear that seemed like it had moved out of position, it was actually out over the small grub screw... one thing I noticed is absolutely zero grease in the two bearings....is this normal...

Re: Confused over threading gears
It's actually the other lever, the one that actually turns the leadscrew...there's a pair of crown nuts that engage each other...I suspect they may be on their way out.

Re: Confused over threading gears
I'm just pouting, lol.. :D appreciate the offer, but I'm in Burlington... The play seems to be coming from the leadscrew engagement lever on the left....going back and forth on the direction, it seems to be coming loose , as in not staying engaged. Going to have to take it apart I think. While we're...

Re: Confused over threading gears
"YOU CANNOT USE THE THREADING DIAL." WELL, WHAT THE #}{#~%! Do they put it there for....!?!?! Followed your directions to a T, made a perfect thread in some aluminum. Tried on the steel, all went to crap. My machine simply is piece of crap, way too sloppy in the feed, etc. But...

Re: Confused over threading gears
THANK YOU! This, I understand finally!
I ran it as you suggested tonight, but need a lot of work getting a clean thread. Seems like backlash in the cross slide resetting it to zero is creating some error, going to try with a hard stop clamped to the table tomorrow.
