Re: AR-15 Front Sight Pins

Hoby,
I seem to remember something about a reamer. And in order to get it right for you rifle you need to have everything aligned and then ream/drill the holes for the sight in place.

Thanks,
Paul

Re: making an end mill

Ronniet, I have been "playing" along those lines too on and off. I have come close with just a D reamer. Not real happy with the way it works, so I am still thinking on the best way to do it. I think the flash hole may need to be done first and use a pilot to keep the cutter centered, but it has bee...

Re: Ruger 10-22 bolt jeweling

Randall Va, Have you checked Brownells? I know of two ways to Jewel, on is with a Cratex stick. The other is with a small wire brush and abrasive in oil. But I have not used either process yet, that is a good idea. I should find a piece of scrap and figure it out, with winter coming I don't have tim...

Re: Where can I get a 5/8 x 10 L Acme tap?

I am a little surprised no one has mentioned making the tap. Fullautomike, you didn't say what you were tapping with it. If it is a softer metal, make one from tool steel if you can harden and temper it all the better. For a one time use hardening and tempering isn't very necessary for use on soft m...

Re: what tool is this?

On the face mill, take out all but one of the cutters and make a flycutter out of it for now. You may not have the horsepower to run it very deep or fast anyway. Each cutter takes a set amount of torque to turn it depending on the depth of cut and the speed of the cutter. It takes more horsepower fo...

Re: tap and die set

However, for all but the most demanding use, carbon steel is a good second best. Yes, I agree, I use HSS for some applications, but I will use a carbon steel tap if I need to save the part in case of a broken tap. Carbon steel taps may wear fast but you can afford to replace them more often so they...

Re: Lost Job

Have you tried for another pilots job? Give SW airlines a try. Especially if you are 737 rated. I can find out for you their current hiring status if you are interested. What you been flying L-1011? Or what is your connection to the RB-211? I can say from my experience that from a maintenance stand...

Re: places to visit in Minneapolis MN.

Mark,
You could visit Hoff-Hilk.
Hoff-Hilk Auction Services
1325 Quincy Street NE
Minneapolis, MN 55413

I think it is right next to Kurt, the vise company.

If only I would have known earlier, I am only 250 miles west of there. I could have planned a visit to my Sister and BIL.

Good luck,
Paul

I had my left knee replaced Nov 5, 1983 (lower half of mine was missing). The knee replacement itself was the least of my issues, and it still works today, though it's way over due for replacement. My biggest problem is traumatic nerve damage and scar tissue (nerve entrapment). I've been reluctant ...

If you're just drilling a hole to hang the plate for target shooting try poking a hole with an acetylene cutting torch.
How about a sinker EDM? I bet that would work.

Thanks,

Please do consider NOT using a drill press as a mill, especially if any fly cutting or end mill use is involved. They simply are not built to accommodate the kinds of loads involved, and offer the risk of serious injury, as has already been mentioned (thanks, "awake"). Besides, in order to machine ...

Thanks Glen for the advise. Gunbuilder, I don't have a shaper. You will have to fix that won't you. If you aren't a money making shop and you have a few square feet to spare you will have to get one. They come in handy every now and then. There are quite a few things that work so much better with a...
