Re: methanol burner
[snip] The nice thing about the methanol is that it burns clean without a lot of nasty smells. Unless there is incomplete combustion and then it can be awful! Beyond description. I think this is a very interesting firing option, worth hanging onto. I run lots of Meths-fired small scale (Ga1) steam ...

Re: Museum Quality 3/4" Hudson
I'm also very amused from time to time by "museum quality", because most people have no idea what that actually is. The other one is "Master Machinist." The problem with that is being a "Master" machinist isn't enough, you also have to be a fine modeler, an artist of so...

Re: Museum Quality 3/4" Hudson
Eventually, Mr. Market will determine what this locomotive is worth, once the owner/seller (Mr. Need) is forced to transfer the engine to another owner (Mr. Want.) Several things can be the "force," . . need of the money, need of space, etc, and eventually Mr. Need and Mr. Want are going t...

Re: 5/32 ME fitting in ANSI 5/32-40 tapped hole
Typically US/UK mis-matched threads will start and go for maybe 2 turns before the crown-root mis-match stops them. They can be forced further, but you never want to have to resort to force.

Re: steam channel
That too is changing. Aside from those already in operation, there are quite a few locomotive restoration projects going on around the country these days, and all that I know of are "doable", meaning a new operating locomotive is physically and finacially attainable. One of the better rest...

Especially when they attempt to bite off more than they can chew...by thinking that a 1.5" big boy will be their first machining/building project... LOL! I've lost count of the number of times I've heard that declared, despite many pleas to try something smaller, like a Tich or Raritan, or eve...

Re: Wanted GAGE G.A. Graham HM1 Horizontal Mill Steam Engine manual/ plans
You might find this if you start inquiring within the Gauge-1/G-gauge live steam community. Gail Graham was close to that group in the USA, at least some years ago, and someone withing that community may have the plans. Also, his son Robert took over the engine operation and he may be able to help b...

Might have been shot at the NRM, but could also have been at the Science Museaum, or the Brighton Engineerium, which has been closed for some years.
