Re: RE Engine Hoist

Hi, It worked great for lifting & righting the 650 pound 3 Ton arbor press off a trailer. But using a log chain was a pain. Some of those nylon (kevlar or ?) type lifting straps would be nice, anyone know of a low cost place to buy them? Rob I got some from Northern Tool at a reasonable price.

The day Laura and I rode the cog a couple of years ago it was hard to get a cleat picture because of all the Stanley Steamers in the parking lot. Must have been a good 20 of them.

Not as common, but available are socket head flat head screws for countersinking. I've seen hex drive; I'll bet you could find torx, and possibly Roberson if you checked with fastener specialty sources.

Well, it looks like I'll be joining Triad Live Steamers. I start a new job in Charlotte, NC, on Monday, July 2. I'll be driving down Tuesday and Wednesday so that I have a couple of days to get settled before starting. Laura will be staying here in NH for a while to prepare for moving and to get the...

The crew at Triad said that they had a bit of 4%; I would have guessed it was closer to 2% but there might be a short patch of something steeper. I'd compare it to the ground line at Waushakum. I had no trouble at all taking an Allen Mogul around even though my only previous experience was with your...

Well, I visited Triad on Saturday and found them welcoming and interesting. I just contacted them through the info email address on their web site and got a call on my cell and made arrangements to visit. If I get the job in Charlotte, I'll certainly join. FWIW, it is a bit of a noisy site, being lo...

Jerry,
You might be better off posting this query on the 3-in-1 forum. Lots of posting there on any number of brands.

BTW I have an EMCO Maximat V10.

When I do blacksmithing I use 20 Mule Team Borax, right out of the box. But for silver soldering/brazing, I recommend that you follow Harold's advice and use a good, commercial flux. Forge welding and brazing by blacksmiths is a far more forgiving process than silver soldering.

Re: Link and Pin couplers

Bill, Why not make a couple of transition couplers? Essentially a standard coupler with a slot cut into the coupler jaw face to accept the link, and a hole drilled down from the top to accept the pin. Many link and pin equipped railroads used them on the way to getting completely out of the L&P...

I might make it on Saturday if I'm not out of town on a job interview trip. I'll confirm one way or another when I know for certain.
