Re: band saw vs power hack saw
Whats been said is not the whole story about hacksaws....I use a large hacksaw 18x18 It is true that a bandsaw with a NEW blade will out cut a hacksaw, but after a few cuts the hacksaw will outcut the bandsaw and will cut strighter anytime. Also if you blowout a tooth or two the band is done, with t...

Re: Firebrick for Metalcasting Propane Furnace
I plan to build a large furnace, something that will hold 200 lbs of brass or so. The only consider to use firebrick is that it is very cheap when it is sold a auctions( I bought 24,000 lbs for 200.00 this summer) I would like info on buying the rammable refractory . Things are a little hard to find...

Re: DC motor/changing RPM
Well you didnt not say how much you want to slow it down or why, also you didnt not say if it was a pm field or if it was shunt wound. But if you want to drop the rpm with full HP the only thing you can do is make the field stronger, this can be done only on a shunt wound motor. You would have to fe...

Re: Old Earle Lathe
You can get belts made but you would probly have to take the lathe apart, or for a good price you could buy poly vee belts and run them on the back side, or if you want to do a real good job and you have more than one lathe you could cut the pullys to fit a poly vee belt ( this will handle 500% more...

Re: I thought this odd too...
Harold, If you want I will get the names and numbers that supply the rod or powder for castiron, but it will put a real dent in your wallet(it runs over 100.00 a pound but there is a lot of repairs where it is worth it) ....Back to the 70 vee ,he needs to cut, It might be better to find the rise ove...

I done this for years with out any hard spots, also there is good cast iron weldind rod on the market now that will give good results(not the cheap nickel rod that is called cast iron welding rod...this stuff runns $50 to $100 a...
