Re: Oil Firing 3/4" Scale

I don’t think firing with oil would work for me...it keeps falling off the shovel.

When I was 5 years old I would ride back and forth as long as he was running the locomotive. Once a year or so my fa...

Re: What is "Live Steam"?

I don’t agree that the hobby of Live Steam applies to only “larger equipment.” As an example I have a photo of Cliff Blackstaffe riding behind a “live steam” locomotive...and it was an O gauge model. To be honest I prefer the term “Model Engineer.” Models powered by other than steam can be beautiful...

Re: What is "Live Steam"?

I think you will find the term “Live Steam” originated in the UK back in the 1920’s with LBSC.

Re: What is "Live Steam"?

There are two kinds of steam...live steam which has not done any work yet...and exhaust steam. So...do you want a definition of live steam...or the Live Steam Hobby. Which is not necessarily railroad but any hobby which is using steam as its energy source. If you build a traction engine, or a statio...

Re: Maine Forest & Logging Museum

The Maine Forest and Logging Museum is a fine little museum. The volunteers are friendly and always happy to show you around and even demonstrate the belt driven machine shop. While I live in Maine, it is a two plus hour drive for me to get there. If it were closer I would volunteer there. When I wa...

Re: 0-6-0 L9 Switcher, differences

Railroads classified their engines by class rather than saying its an 0-6-0, in this case the Northern Pacific called this version of their 0-6-0's the L9 class. Many engine wheel arrangements also have a name. 2-8-2's are considered Mikado's. The Northern Pacific 2600's were A class 4-8-4 Northern...

I’m not sure I understand what “L9” is that referring to in your post.
