Re: Making Punch And Dies On The Milling Machine
Hello, Those parts can be milled out of solid. I think if you were to make hundreds the levers would be practical made out of stamped sheet. I think your best way forward at this time is to make them on a mill, develop fixtures to hold your parts so production is easier. You are a wood worker much o...

Re: Question about factory made coal car wheels.
Hello,
If you are building a new track using groovy ties you could cut the grooves at an angle to match the tread angle of the wheel giving a much bigger contact area. This is what the tie plates on the real railroad do. Rounding the edge would still be a good idea to reduce the flange fillet wear.

Re: boring bar and brazing
Hello friends, Richards suggestion is a good one. Broken end mills are a good source for cutting tool edges. I repurposed my broken carbide end mills as cutting tips in a boring bar with a round hole for the tool holder. the boring bar is double ended with one hole at right angles to the bar and the...

Re: Minimum radius for 2 ft. gauge
Hello Friends A Forney type of locomotive will require a larger turning radius than even a short wheelbase 0-6-0 this is due to its greater distance from the front driver to the truck pivot . That distance will determine the minimum radius . You could make the same locomotive with a short 4 wheel te...
