Actually, many of the responses that people posted were quite helpful and I learned a lot. That's why I was really confused by your negative comments about what folks were saying. They were simply trying to help me find some way to do the job with the tools I had, which is exactly what I was asking ...

I simply offered it as a quick fix for someone that insists on avoiding proper practice. Harold What are you talking about? When did I insist that I want to avoid proper practice? Proper practice today would be to use a CNC machine, period. I don't have one of those and I'm not likely to ever get o...

The idea of hand forming an O ring groove is an interesting concept, one that would surely yield a rejected piece of work. Harold Relax guys....I'm not making parts for the space shuttle. I just need to seal a plate against 200 PSI of water pressure and want to find a way of making the groove mysel...

I finally purchased and installed a DRO on my JET JVM-836 mill. I bought the Easson ES10-3M5 from DRO Pros http://www.dropros.com/ This is a 3-axis unit with glass scales and a lot of nice features at a very reasonable price compared to other units. The unit came with lots of nice mounting hardware,...

Using the Bresenham arc generation technique, you only need 184 coordinate pairs for each corner at that radius. I have a DRO. I tried searching the internet for instructions about the Bresenham technique, but I came up with a bunch of uselss dribble. My DRO has an arc function, but after numerous ...

Thanks for the tips everyone. I want to have the satisfaction of figuring this out and doing it myself on my own tools. I don't want to bring it somewhere and pay someone else to do it. There is no satisfaction in that. I'm going to try using my rotary table to make the curves. If that doesn't work ...

That's pretty cool.

I have a JET JVM-836 mill. So I'd have to see if that attachment would work on that mill. My mill does have a 3 3/8 quill diameter and and R8 spindle, but is there more to it than that?

You are right-the last picture shows exactly what I am trying to do.

I have the parker o-ring handbook and am familiar with o-ring gland design. I have successfully designed and specified o-ring glands before for various applications. I have found though, that for the applications that I typically work with (sealing air and/or water with no more than 300 PSI) that it...

O-ring groove question

I have a project in the works that requires a plate to be sealed over a hollow cavity using an o-ring. Looking at it from the top, the o-ring groove is shaped like a square, with radiused corners, so that the o-ring does not have to make a tight bend around the corners. The width of the o-ring groov...

Indexable end mill question

Hi all; I'd like to get your opinion on indexible end mills for use on medium sized knee-type milling machines (such as JET JVM-836). I mainly work with aluminum and free-machining steels. I want to have the ability to make wide and deep cuts quickly for roughing stock down to size. Currently, I onl...

Here is a link to a story about one of the projects we did last year. There is also a video file on the page with the story. The video shown here is not taken with a head mount camera, but at least you get the idea of what we are doing.
