Many years ago, a guy built one of these in 1 1/2 scale. There was an article in Modeltec I think. I bought a set of drawings from him. Its a cute design.

I just came across the issue. Modeltec June 1986, pages 6-11.

Re: sweet william cylinder head clearances

I am building a Sweet William too (It is in the build log section) but I am not that far ahead. I would love to see or hear more about your engine!

Re: Battery Life

I think getting 6-7 years already is pretty good. I guess it depends on how much you use them. A battery tender is an excellent battery charger that is highly recommended on other threads here. I know some people who have gotten 10+ years out of their batteries, and others who might not get 5. I don...

Re: Painting graphics on plywood - advice

I burnished and burnished and burnished. I pushed it into the wood as hard as I could. Then, when I removed the backer the stencil came off too. The plywood just wasn't smooth enough to give the stencil enough surface area to make a firm grip that could overcome the pull of removing the backer. I tr...

Re: Painting graphics on plywood - advice

Thanks. As an update, even though the painted plywood feels pretty smooth the vinyl stencils wouldn't stick. Whenever I tried to peel off the backer paper the blue vinyl stencil came off too. Metal would be smoother and allow for a greater bond, but not here. I will need to come up with another idea.

Re: Building the 2.5" Scale Shay

Any idea how many of these Shays are operating right now? There is of course John's, and your's. Anybody else? Just wondering. Seems like a neat engine.

Re: Painting graphics on plywood - advice

Can't use an airbrush as I don't have one. I could use a regular brush but I think I would bodge it up. I will use a spray can (rattle can), but if there are better brands than Krylon or Rustoleum I don't mind paying more. I only need one can total, so money isn't the issue. I just know Krylon has t...

Painting graphics on plywood - advice

I purchased one of the bulkhead riding kits and assembled it over the past month or so. Then, I painted it with two coats of Sherwin Williams all-surface enamel oil paint. The coats went on exactly a month apart, as timing would have it. The second coat has been on for 10 days. It is sitting in my g...
