Re: Steam pressure gauges is there any interest in them?

Hi Adam, First and foremost, kudos for an amazing job well done with the gauges. Regarding range: here in the Northeast, 200psig gauges are the de facto standard across all of the locomotives I've seen/operated. As far as I am aware, gauges are most accurate in the middle third of their range, so 66...

Re: NJLS Fall Meet

Here's something you don't see very often, a steam/diesel tripleheader in 1.5" scale! That's Dan's Hudson triple heading with my F's on Saturday of the meet. And yes, the F's were being controlled from the cab of the Hudson, made possible by the R/C control system I recently installed on the F's. Wh...

Re: steel tires

Hi Hoppercar, That's exactly how i do the tires, after the wheels are already pressed onto the axles. I also do include a shoulder to give the tire a place to sit nice and squarely when you drop it on hot. If - for whatever reason - it goes on crooked and cools down before you catch it, there is not...

Re: steel tires

Hi Hoppercar,

I have applied steel tires on three locomotives now and have had great success with 0.001" of interference for each inch of diameter. So, for example, 0.007" of interference on my 7" dia 2-8-0 drivers.

Sincerely,
Adam

Thank you FLLS!!

Hi all, The Finger Lakes Live Steamers' 50th Anniversary Meet is now in the history books, and boy was it a good one. The FLLS membership has done a marvelous job with the recent expansion projects on both the 4-3/4" and 7-1/4" tracks; in particular, the new bridge on the 7-1/4" added a lot of sceni...

Hi all, Once again, many thanks for the insightful comments! Below are a few quick photos of the rods in question - prior to installing the bushings, of course. Sincerely, Adam Camera Photos 1181.jpg Camera Photos 1182.jpg Camera Photos 1184.jpg Camera Photos 1199.jpg Camera Photos 1211.jpg

Re: Side rod bushing clearance

Hi folks, Excellent information, as always. I have adjustable reamers so should be able to dial in the ID of the bushings nicely. A follow-up question: when I built my 0-6-0 many moons ago, I recall the Little Engines prints suggesting to use a triangular scraper and Dykem layout fluid to scrape the...

Side rod bushing clearance

Hi all, As a rule of thumb: what is the 1. desirable, 2. minimum, and 3. maximum allowable clearance for the side rod bushings between the OD of the crankpins and the ID of the bushing? Crankpins are 0.625" OD (material is hardened D2), bushings are Alloy 932 bronze, method of lubrication will be gr...

Re: STEAMIN UP VIDEO REACHES ONE MILLION VIEWS

Hi Dave, Funny you mention. One of my colleagues at work, who has no relation to the hobby other than he knows that I am somehow involved, watched this exact video of yours the other day after YouTube automatically suggested it to him based on his video history. For the record, he thoroughly enjoyed...
