Re: Propane firing
I ran into the same issue 20 years ago and a guy that was a RV dealer told me about the HORIZONTAL 20# tanks that they used in some installations. I bought a couple of them and they work great. The two of them fit easily in a standard 1.5" scale box car. I have mine in a stock car with most of ...

Re: Issues with RMI
Trainman, I want to respond to your comments directed to me. I was working in my shop on a K-4 and an Allen's 10-Wheeler back when you had Mercer. You were known for your high quality, authentic items and that's why the owners of the engines chose your parts. I don't question that the issues supplyi...

Re: Issues with RMI

Re: Is the live steam hobby in decline?
One thing that does cause problems for some live steamers and the expansion of the hobby, is the problem with liability insurance. When the general public is not exposed to live steam railroading, it's difficult to recruit new people. When the places you run are private tracks, only the people alrea...

Sorry to hear Don, that you are stepping away from the business you spent years building. Your workmanship has always been great and deliveries were as promised. I recommended you to many different guys and never had any of them say they were dissatisfied with your work. I can understand your reason...

I would suggest you try this web site:
http://www.steamenginelube.com/
I have used his oil for many years in both full size engines and live steamers. There are different blends for high and low steam temps. If you give him a call, he can suggest the best version for your purpose.

You could do the same thing I do when I need to weld/braze old cast iron parts. I build an oven with fire brick and use a rosebud to heat the oven and parts to the needed temp, cover and then let the parts cool slowly. It may take more than one 20# cylinder of propane to do the job, but it works. I ...
