Re: 12VCompressor for a Brake Car

Nothing is perfect. The pressure switch and high current relay (especially if "automotive" quality) are subject to failure, possibly allowing the compressor to run indefinitely. While compressor maximum output pressure is self-limiting to some extent, it's worthwhile to incorporate a safety valve in...

Re: 12VCompressor for a Brake Car

Those compressors run at high speed, generarting considerable noise and some vibration. You might want to consider using a ventilated housing with moderate soundproofing and vibration isolation for the compressor. Also, the more air storage capacity in the system, the better to keep the compressor f...

Re: Vincent Astor's railroad

Curly's return to England had nothing to do with Wall Street; it was sudden and involuntary. Anyone with a deep interest in the early years of the live steam hobby should consider acquiring back issues of the British Model Engineer magazine, from its 1898 inception at least through the 1960s. Additi...

Re: Romney, Hythe & Dymchurch tips?

There was a tragic accident several years later when some moron ignored the flashing warning lights. During our two-week self-conducted 1970 "Model Engineers' England" tour,...

Re: Train To Everywhere

Thanks for the link, Dan. However, while this is an impressive video record of the 1978 run, it's disappointing that the C&O was so anxious to promote their railroad they thought it necessary to decorate that historic BLACK Reading locomotive with yellow paint.

Re: Coal dust bricks again

QUESTION: Considering the cost of coal and the finite limit on life, which is more important, pasting pieces of coal dust together or making something new and worthwhile in your shop? Only asking.
