Re: Right angle indicator attachments

It is a function of the indicator and how far the bar is sticking out. First mount your indicator on the bar, touching the bar, and set to zero, rotate the the bar so the indicator is upside down and note the discrepancy in the reading. You have to take the effect of gravity on the indicator into ef...

Re: Right angle indicator attachments

I wouldn't dream of putting one of my expensive haimers in there. I just used the coax to get me in the ballpark of one of my test indicators. The indicator was stationary and I was rotating the part so shouldn't have had too much of a problem with droop distorting my readings. When I have to set th...

Re: Right angle indicator attachments

Thanks Pete. I think you would still want a right angle attachment. I'll post some more pictures later.

Re: Right angle indicator attachments

More costly but a remote reading electronic indicator works in awkward locations like your situation. You could ask if they make a smaller one. https://www.ebay.ca/itm/iGaging-ABSOLUTE-Indicator-4-0-00005-Inch-Metric-IP65-with-Remote-Readout/333096107716?epid=8024581039&hash=item4d8e133ec4:g:u5...

Re: Right angle indicator attachments

That depends on the length of the probe being used, which will also be affected by the angle of the probe. It's more of a comparative device than a measuring device. Yep, that is exactly how I used it. I used the coaxial indicator to rough in my part. It allows you to start with 30 or 40 thousands ...

Re: Right angle indicator attachments

I actually did try a 196 with the hole probe. I didn't like the way it worked, while trying to dial in my four jaw. To be able to see the dial face I had to have it facing up which puts the measurement perpendicular to the lathe bed. I wasn't able to work the chuck key and keep track of the part mov...

Right angle indicator attachments

I'm looking for right angle attachments to help get down into a hole. I have a starrett 671 and I ordered a dorsey c30 but I would like to find something with a little more reach so I could see the dial a little better. Since I don't have the dorsey yet I'm not a 100% sure how it will work. I might ...

Re: Now on to What kind of drill bits??

My left hand drillhog bits have been great and they were good to honor the warranty for the two I broke extracting broken bolts. They seem to compare favorably with my Viking and Cleveland twist that I get from McMaster Carr. I actually didn't expect them to replace the broken bits because I broke t...

Re: Bluing Blackening Steel

I like the precision brand tool black. You can purchase it in kit form with cleaner, tool black and preserving oil. I've had good luck with it over the years.

Re: DRO Functions

My DRO PROS EL700 has this feature. It can be quite handy to know what your feed actually is. I don't know if any of their other displays display the feed rate. Helps to adjust the feed rate to get a precise feed per tooth.

Re: Blasting cast iron

I like the course silica sand for that, but you have to have the right PPE to protect you from the dust.
