Re: 3D Printer - looking for wisdom
Dave-- Did you make a decision on the 3D printer this weekend? Nope. The local used machine listed on Craig's is a bit overpriced, and the seller has not responded to emails. New is an option, but after talking with Makerbot sales, they are politely telling me me to wait for the 5th generation, out...

Re: 3D Printer - looking for wisdom
Visit Deltaprintr’s Kickstarter page to procure your own printer I haunt Kickstarter from time to time, 3D printing is quite popular these days. One major thing on my list is: ready to print, NOW. While I realize they all require a fair amount of tinkering, I not looking for a construction project....

Re: 3D Printer - looking for wisdom
Grimm,
Looks a lot like my list. I also would like an established USA company. Local User groups would be a big plus, but I have not found a group yet. I do have Techshops within driving distance, but not sure how much info I can get there.

I think it's a gauge to determine the thickness of sheetmetal.

Re: 3D Printer - looking for wisdom
Thanks for the magazine reference, I bought it. I don't get Make, (the grandkids do). I saw 3D printing using concrete extruder a couple years back. The work envelope was a cube about three feet on a side. I can imagine a big one forming a house, or at least utility vaults. Brave new world coming. D...

3D Printer - looking for wisdom
I'm thinking about buying a 3D printer. Do I need it? Well, about as much as I need a 12" Lathe or a Bridgeport. The current attraction is that I'm not as mobile as days past, and a desk top machine might live in my (warm) computer room. What do I want to do with it? Few of you know that I'm al...

Re: 34 ohm 2 watt resistor
Harold,
Glad to help out if I can. Thank you for the kind words. I'm planning on sticking around as long as possible, no plans to move to the "new shop" anytime soon.

Re: 34 ohm 2 watt resistor
Harold,
I found 33 ohm, 3 watt at http://www.halted.com for 25 cents each. They are 10% tolerance. I can drop by and get a few for you.

Re: Why is my lid jig a miserable failure?
A few thoughts, probably all wrong. 1. Aluminum for flashing is probably already hard tempered, just from the rolling process. You might try to anneal the stock, then temper after forming. 2. The only time I have had much luck with 3D curved surfaces was to press a rubber plug into the aluminum, whi...

Re: R-8 Collet Set
Okay correct me please if I am wrong... I understood this set to allow you to mount the R-8 collet holder in the spindle and then all you need to do to change tools is just loosen the R-8 collet holder in stead of having to loosen the spine and replace the R-8 shank tool holder each time... Correct...

Re: R-8 Collet Set
I have a set like that. Rarely use it, since it is a R8 shank. Only used for holding tools, and moderate diameters get shoved away from the spindle bearings. I much prefer solid holders, more rigid, for about the same money you can setup several cutters, and leave them fixed in place.
