Re: I Think I Need Some Soft Jaws

Here's an option for a soft jaw chuck if you have an old 3J chuck you don't mind butchering. Take jaws out, anneal (couple of hours in my log burner & left to cool in the ashes), turn off the steps, tap for cap screws (size depends on chuck size). Part off suitable slices of hex bar, drill clear...

Re: Show us your milling machine!

Here's my old (c1950s) Fritz Werner, looks like a paint job is due... http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/remark/pages/workshop/images/werner.jpg This will have to do untill the Aciera comes along. Also managed to find room for this BCA jig mill. http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/remark/pages/workshop/images/bca.jp...

Myford S7 - Topslide usually set at 25deg for imperial screw cutting. (A George Thomas recommendation that cleans the rear flank of the thread.)

The Train

Burt also pours a mean white metal bearing in the film...
I also understood that he was in the circus, he seemed at home in 'The Greatest Show On Earth'.

John E - Most of the bikes I have had over the years have sort of 'found me' & by chance they were mostly 'foreign'. Not to say there are not some Brit bikes I would like to own if I had the money, you named a couple... Bill - there are two rows of 180, that gives me 360 to play with, as I menti...

JH- Not had many Brit bikes (just a few) & if memory serves the ignition should be on the main switch. But someone may have well fitted a 'hidden' kill switch, usually on the low tension to the coil. Spro - I would love to have a Holtz (or an Evans or a Fenn) but the pension won't stretch to it....

Still on the right side of the grass (just!) Been a bit busy laying patio slabs, looking after grandchildren (little treasures), trip to Spain on the old 45 for a bit more sunshine before snuggling down for the winter. Managed to get a few hours in the workshop on the latest project - a rose engine....

Here's a few I have made over the years, some made from old files, others from gauge plate. http://myweb.tiscali.co.uk/remark/pages/Temp/images/formtools.jpg The forms are for various items - mini air fittings, drawer knobs, balls etc. Easy to make, file up the shape in annealed material (adding som...

It's always a nice feeling to be able to save a few pennies with the kit in the workshop rather than just playing with the toys. Congratulations on finding a way to make those double-ended clamps work. Yes, they are a bit of mixed blessing, as bought they need a bit of fettling to make them half-way...

Saved another £200

Back in March 2008 I posted regarding repairing my specs. Well they died on me again, different problem, my original 'fix' is still holding up. This time one of the bolts (looks about 14 BA.) snapped off the frame. Looking the complete nutter with driving glasses+reading glasses+headband magnifyer I...
